Yeah, the blue axis seems to be point the right direction, but you need to adjust the red and green ones. You'll notice it is lined up correctly end to end, its just lying on its side. THat is a green/red issue. An easy way to do it is to edit the component and rotate the geometry so it is standing up. OR you could change the component axis before using component stringer. And component stringer is not necessarily the best script for laying out things like fences onto a line. CompStringer really excels at things that can change scale. I would recommend using Rick's path_Copy from smustard.com. You will probably get better results and more relable. Chris

Hi folks. A trick: if you need to jump back and forth between two distant locations, I suggest making a scene for each of these locations. Don't forget that you can switch point of view, including changing scene in the middle of a move or drawing operation. For example, you need to start a circle on a precise point in a very cluttered part of the model (lets call in "Part 1"). You will need to zoom in closely to be able to snap to the precise point that you want. But, the circumference bust be snapped to a point that is hundreds of meters away in another cluttered part (lets call it "Part 2"). Option 1: 1 - Zoom in on Part 1. 2 - Start the circle on the proper point. 3 - While the Circle Tool is still active, zoom out, pan, orbit, whatever to get Part 2 in view. 4 - Zoom in on part 2. 5 - Click to finish the circle. If you need to do that only once, you have probably choosen the correct procedure. However, if you need to add, for example, a serie of lines between two parts that are far apart from each other, it can become very tedious. Option 2: 1 - Zoom, pan and orbit to set a usefull view for part 1. 2 - Create a scene (Scene 1, for example). 2 - Do the same for part 2. You will have a Scene 2. 3 - Click on the Scene 1 tab. 4 - Start a line. 5 - While the Line Tool is still active, click on the Scene 2 tab. 6 - Complete the line. Repeat as many time as required. When done, delete the scenes if they are not required anymore. Just ideas.

You need Ortho projection. Turn this on with the menu item Camera > Parallel Projection and view you image from the top. The slant you are seeing is only present in Perspective view.

I'm starting to comprehend what you're getting at and I'm remembering why I gave up using outliner for scene management. I do recall that what gets hidden in there over-rides the scenes layers settings. That is also why I never select an object and hide it using the hide and unhide options. I only hide things using layer management. I am not sure how it would work, but it would be ideal if there was a better link between all of this.

Actually, I just found another problem. When the SketchUP scenes are imported into Kerkythea, every camera is identical. I assume this is a problem with importing axonometric views -- does anyone know if there is a work-around for this?

For some reason, it took me a couple of tries to load your model - it locked up SU one time and crashed it without warning the other. I did get it loaded on the third attempt and my first action was to use Thomthom's Cleanup script on it. The script found and erased 63 lonely edges - I have no idea if this was a cause of my problems or yours but as far as I can tell, Outliner is working fine on the cleaned-up model.

Thanks Remus. I'll give it a try. By the way, I'm working on a Mac... don't know if that makes a difference or not.

@alpro said: I would just start with a circle with however many segments you needed, which would depend on how closely the model is gonna be viewed. The view below was zoomed in pretty close, the more that you move the view out the less noticable the difference between the two circles is. Mike That might be the best way - Hey, If I'm already striping 6 segments why not 48. Once I cook it all in Podium it will probably look just fine. UPDATE EDIT: Here's how I finally did it... DREW a 16 segment circle - PULLED to 4" - Turned on GEOMETRY to determine vertical segments. Used LINE DRAW to bisect each of the 16 Segments. GROUPED, COPIED and PASTED on top - ROTATED to line up stripes. COPIED these two and placed on top - REPEATED until it was the height I wanted. MADE IT A COMPONENT. Edited and painted the stripes. Did a quickee PODIUM render and it looks okay. Thanks for the help.

@davidboulder said: I haven't read all of the posts, so maybe someone has suggested this. Have you tried (on a copy of the file) make texture unique, and then purge the model. This will make things a lot smaller. However, I think this would have to be one texture at a time, but I suppose you could write a script for that. tried it (and tons of other things ) ... doesn't work valkama, i'm still puzzled but glad you found a work around.. if i import via the method you described, i can still do 3ds exports no problem

I work with similar models in the landscaping industry, What works for me is to have your terrain that you created with your sandbox tool (make sure its exploded - not a group) Then make your road a group, edit the group and use your pull tool and pull your road up past and through your terrain. Then exit out of your group and select both you terrain and road ground and then use the interest with selected tool. Hope this helps

thanks! i'll give it a try and try to remember to report back. i have traditionally changed isolated parking stripes in autocad, convert to plines, give them a width, them wblock out for import to sketchup which works well enough. trying to avoid cadwork thought and streamline the process in SU. ALSO, Vali Architects, "Instant Road NUI" has great many features including "Striping" which will take SU lines, convert them to faces and drape them onto a surface mesh. thanks, bob

That looks like a neat program! I haven't used it, but you can get it right here for a cool $550(professional license) Here is a recent demo using Sketchup to form the original mesh, then exporting to GEM [flash=853,505:2jb7r26m]http://www.youtube.com/v/ijynb4bNbDc&fs=1[/flash:2jb7r26m]
