    • RE: Need help finding error-SU 2019

oh boy.... i was searching "3 point" NOT "3pt"
thanks for taking the time to compensate for my, eh..lack of sleep 😄

I installed Pixero's 3pt rectangle and error is gone.
      STILL
i have to wonder if it wasn't installed, why was i getting the error in the first place?
I used LAUNCHER to search installed plugins within sketchup also using all sorts of relevant keywords but nothing had come up. Oh well. Solved for now.
      Thanks!!

yes. very strange. i wondered if it was related to 3d window...but i dont have that installed either.

i used SU extension manager to load all things i had installed previously with my login account. I wonder if something came through but couldnt fully install?

i cant find a 3 point rectangle extension, or i would install it to see it makes the error go away.

    • RE: Need help finding error-SU 2019

Thanks. Unfortunately, it seems like there is no plugin by that name installed.
I am guessing that another plugin may be trying to load it??

Not sure. Searching plugin folder doesn't bring up any key words.

    • Need help finding error-SU 2019

Hello, i have a plugin error occurring when starting SU 2019. it will close and i can work but i am wondering how i can figure out which script is trying to call the missing file.

I have loaded all plugins through the Sketchucation extensions manager and the Su extensions manager. so i did not copy any old plugins folder data into the new one.

Is there a way to use the Ruby Console to track this down?

      Error Loading File 3pt_Rectangle/3pt_Rectangle_main
Could not find included file '3pt_Rectangle/3pt_Rectangle_main'

      Thanks,
      Bob

    • RE: Has anyone tried Formit by AutoDesk instead of SketchUp?

Thanks Glenn. Are you using Revit for Cd's and visualization or SketchUp for viz, or a combination?

    • Has anyone tried Formit by AutoDesk instead of SketchUp?

Anybody using Formit by AutoDesk instead of SketchUp?

Our office is making a big push to have everything incorporate into a Revit workflow. Some people are basically very interested in removing SketchUp from the process. We use Sketchup for creative design and producing very fast efficient visualization with Lumion.

Id love to hear from anyone who has tried FormIt or is using it in a workflow for 3d visualization.
Also, if you were a SketchUp user, how you think it compares to SketchUp.

Autodesk has obviously attempted to knock off sketchups intuitive interface and ease of use as much as possible and also made it fir into a Revit workflow, which is what is being advertised as the game changer. But does it really compare?

From what i have seen so far, it doesn't look like Formit is truly a replacement for Sketchup, especially considering the 3d Warehouse and all of the extensions available in Sketchup which make it extremely powerful.

      Any comments welcome.
      Thanks,
      Bob

    • RE: Sketchup in big architecture offices (running Revit)..

This is a very interesting topic and relevant to a very large task we are undertaking in our office:

Trying to determine the best workflow for each project and decide what tools, or combinations of tools will be best. I know it has a lot to do with project and personnel, but we are looking to develop some criteria for making a decision at the start of projects. I know that this topic has been coming up in many many firms around the world especially with Revits adoption rate climbing every day.

      OBJECTIVES

      1. Understand the tools available and their relationship with each other and their role within our Design Process
      2. Try to determine the best workflow for each project and decide what tools, or combinations of tools will be best.
        Our tools:
        a. SketchUp
        b. AutoCad
        c. Revit
        d. Lumion

Some users are suggesting we remove sketchup from the workflow and only use Revit for Design Exploration, Presentation to clients, etc, and Documentation.
I am a serious Sketchup user who does not really think that is feasible considering the amount of time and geometry needed inside of Revit compared to the ease of use in Sketchup and the amount of detail, texture control, available component resources, etc. using Sketchup To Lumion. HOWEVER, i am just now in the process learning Revit, so that is based on observations only.

I believe there may be some cases where "basic" visualization can be produced with Revit only, maybe using Revits render engine or Lumion, which would avoid a sketchup model, but for many projects with a lot of design exploration i feel like a parallel workflow would be best, Revit & Sketchup, each doing their different tasks, but the sketchup model being updated as needed by importing Revit DWG exports of plans and RCP's. The Revit model is moving towards CD documentation and informing the Sketchup Design Exploration process, and the Sketchup file is being changed often, with different materials, furniture, etc. and rendered in Lumion for design development discussions and client coordination/buy in.

Any and All comments/discussions welcome. This has become a hot button topic as people take sides based on their preference. i would like to explore this in the most objective way possible and consider all possibilities.

I would love to see some input from any type of users about how they (or their office) decides what to use and when.

      1. Revit Only – Can include Lumion
      2. Sketchup first then Revit. Sketchup may fall off during Revit production– Can include Lumion
      3. Revit & Sketchup - Parallel Path – Can include Lumion
      4. Revit or Autocad first then Sketchup - allowing cad documents to inform sketchup

I am still trying to parse all of this info, so please be kind if something seems ridiculous or obvious 😄

      Thanks,
      Bob

    • RE: Image Trimmer Plugin issue

TIG, Thank you so much for your detailed response and the updated script.
I was also able to get it to work by NOT doing the smoothing option. I used "Simplify Selected Curves" in "Edge Tools2" to smooth the alpha selection once converted to lines. Worked great!
I will try the new updated one shortly also. It is an AMAZING time saver for us creating products from images for retail store stocking.

I hope people thank you enough on a daily basis, because there are a handful of you guys that really make sketchup an amazingly powerful tool when applying the scripts you create. I try to avoid tedious, repetitive tasks as much as possible and usually, someone like your self has run into the same problem and solved it. A mighty "Huzzah" to you sir!

      Thanks again for the help,
      Bob

Has this ever been officially made into a plugin for the masses?
