Hi Guys, I don't use Outliner as much as i would like only that when you want to save visual geometry on a scene, styles done recognize it. Am i missing something?

Outliner seems to be great for organizing components and groups but if we can't isolate and save visual geometry in styles then I feel it is a limited function......

      Any thoughts?

Outliner just lets you view and modify the heirarchy of components and groups within the model. There is no connection to styles with it. What do you feel is missing?

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

          thanks Chris,
I don't see why we can't save the visual display of components and groups in each scene / style. Considering we draw everything on Layer 0 and move groups and components to layers, I just thought rather than name a component then have to assign it to a layer, we could isolate visual geometry in a required scene/style and save. This would go a long way to sorting out the layer control issue with GSU....

I have to admit I'm a little confused with what layer control issues? And scenes and styles don't have too much in common, except that scenes can specifiy a certain style to be used while displaying that scene. I can't help but think I'm missing something, or you're trying to make a connection between things that i've never considered, or something. hmmmm.

              Sorry for the confusion Chris.
Maybe I'm just asking a little too much of Outliner. Or maybe a little lazy and not naming all groups and comps'.....

I am however confused now as to why we can hide a groups or comps' from within Outliner and not just toggle layers...... πŸ˜•

I think I'm forgetting how outliner works (I'm not a huge outliner user). I thought that you coudl control visibility of groups/comps through it, but not do anything with layers. When I get back to a machine with SU on it tonight, I'll check it out.

you can do just that Chris. hide and un-hide groups/comps but if you are done with hiding elements and you want to then switch to a saved scene in the drawing, your scene settings are as per you last updated them MINUS the hidden elements you manually toggled in Outliner. That is my problem!!!!

Once a group/comp. is hidden in Outliner it over-rides all your saved scene settings......

I'm starting to comprehend what you're getting at and I'm remembering why I gave up using outliner for scene management. I do recall that what gets hidden in there over-rides the scenes layers settings.

That is also why I never select an object and hide it using the hide and unhide options. I only hide things using layer management.

I am not sure how it would work, but it would be ideal if there was a better link between all of this.
