@zaphodqb said: I have a detailed model (about 1.6mb) and when I try to place it in GE from inside SU, a large portion right in the middle of the model does not show up in GE. Anyone else had this problem of only part of the model appearing in GE, got an answer? NEVERMIND. After many attempts it seems that you have to have layer0 turned on even though there is currently noting on layer0. Once I turned layer0 on the whole model showed up in GE.

Hi folks. Your image suggest that hidden geometry is visible. A hidden face appears as a dotted array, as in your image. Try the View Menu and select the "Hidden geometry" to uncheck it. These hidden faces will disapear from view. This method of hiding geometry is good when you want to hide only a few items. When the number of hidden objects begin to get larger, you may loose track of what you have in your model. A better way is to create a layer and make it invisible. After that, assign all items that you want to hide to this layer. If you need to check a hidden item, simply show the layer. To work inside an enclosed object you may also consider going inside or using a "Section Plane". Just ideas.

Sorry to post again... If it happens after adding shadow or a texture, then, it's definitely display card issue, because, it cannot take so much of loads. Switch off shadowing and do the same as mentioned above, it should be ok. Thanks.

You have identified a serious problem. Keep your trees in a separate layer. A truly huge tree layer will not slow SketchUp down if the layer isn't visible. Good evening Martin, To tell the truth, in the last few days I tried that same thing that you suggested and it worked! That simple! I only make the layer visible when its time to render and voila! Victorius! Not exactly what I had in mind but it will do! Thank U very much for your help!

Oh, we are talking about different plugins. I was talking about my super simple sine curve plugin. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the equation grapher. Many of my plugins need re-worked and I'm not finding the time or motivation to do it. It might be best to for me to take a few of them down, I don't know.

You can also use a transparent image [PNG file] as a texture, and then even with the material's opacity set at 100% you can see through a face that uses it and it will still cast shadows even when very transparent [ http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=260915#p260915 ] - unlike simple materials where low opacity settings stop casting shadows... you need to decide which way you want this to happen........

Under View > Hidden Geometry in the menu bar you can show or hide geometry. Or if it's not hidden geometry you can right click the statue and choose soften/smooth to hide these lines. Let us know if these work?

Hi folks. SU allows that. To move an object, for example grabing a cube by one vertice and snapping that vertice to the endpoint of a line, you would follow these steps: 1 - Select the object to move with a click if it is a group or component, with a window select or with a triple click if all its geometry is connected but it is not a group or component. 2 - Select the Move Tool. 3 - Hover the cursor over the selected object's vertex that you want to grab untill you get a snap indicated by a pop-up stating "Endpoint". 4 - Click to grab the object. 5 - Move the cursor on the endpoint of the line untill you get a snap indicated by a pop-up stating "Endpoint". The object shall follow the cursor after being grabbed. 6 - Click to place the object. In all these steps, a click in a press THEN a release of the left mouse button (LMB). Do not press the LMB to grab the object and keep it down while draging the object. I suggest that you watch the video tutorials on the Move Tool, the Rotate Tool and, of course, that you read the help about these tools to get an idea of all the subtle modifications that you can add to these tools with the press of some modifier keys or the use of the Measurement Window to input exact values that can be used to specify distances, absolute coordinates or relative coordinates, just to name a few. By the way, watch the status bar on the lower left of the model window. It is always telling you what it expects from you. And finally, all the tools related to positioning the view like Pan, Zoom and Orbit are active even in the middle of an operation like Move, Rotate, Copy, Scale, etc. You can even change scene, rendering mode, turns shadows on or off, etc during such operations. Experiment and have fun. Just ideas.

You can use the free plugins to play with edges - CrisP Color Edge - http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=28957#p251619 and xLine - http://rhin.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/plugin_details.php?id=486 [image: JGPA_2010-07-28_193707.jpg]

Thanks all. I actually also found this specialist in Hong Kong. I hope they will be able to provide images that I can make into textures and hopefully give me a reasonable price for installing their modules. Cheers!

Your friend could upgrade for a $95 fee from his older version. As for classes, search for "Certified Google SketchUp trainers" or "Authorized Google SketchUp Trainuing Center". Depending where you live, you may have luck to find one nearby. They can give you a certification with a nice badge. In many countries these classes can even be credited as college/univ courses.

@massimo said: You can, for example, draw the projection of the roof cutting your plan, then use the "project faces on face along vector" in order to extrude each part of the subdivided walls on the respective gable of the roof. Looks cool! If it works with SU8 further explanation is required! Eg: Will it work between objects in different groups?!
