Posting your kitchen plan would make it easier. It is also more accurate to finish the cabinet. The design should be at least simple one to make it easier to do and paint.

Wow! Thanks for the help and the education regarding what it takes to make it rotate a precise number of degrees. It was way past my skill level! Thank you again. Sincerely, Bill

There are some rendering applications that can export an alpha mask (white for the rendered objects and black for the background). Have a look at Kerkythea for instance (free). Then it's just a matter of multiply layering the images.

@david will said: Is there a way to develop a web application to interact with the model in sketchup? i.e. load, remove, make transparent etc... Ok, firstly welcome, and yes I remember there being a discussion about this at somepoint. There are 3d Pdfs available now which be a solution. @unknownuser said: Say I have 2 groups defined in sketchup, Can I use the application mentioned above to store each group as a record in the database. Does sketchup have model interactivity i.e. if i select a group right click on it and select a defined menu item can I get a data grid that contains the info related to that group?[/ There is a plugin called 'stock maker' where you can select a component and give it some values etc. Though I'm not sure you can export a data base from it but i think you can. Hope that helps

Hey Jax... I have been thinking about modeling an old Depot in my birth town for a little while. I was getting ready to contact the local Historic Preservation after doing a few google searches to see if there were any plans on the building documented anywhere. Since they are looking at restoring the building it looks as if they had as-builts done, at least partially - and they are located on the Library of Congress website. Looks like a good starting place for anyone looking for historical documents. http://loc.gov/pictures/item/la0418/#step3 I got lucky and was linked from this website that discusses the history of the building. http://www.nps.gov/history/nr/travel/caneriver/tex.htm Hope this helps in whatever project you are hunting down.

It sounds like you got it figured out for what you needed. It would have been nice to see the model before you cleaned it up so we could nail down the problem. Nice model BTW!

Thanks, Chris and TIG. I think a quick change of the layer color in the DWG exported from SketchUp from within Autocad is the quick fix here. (Chris, you got the scenario just right).

I am a contractor and I have heard the term "gone off" before or in the more active and immediate sense "it's going off". I would say it is not even that uncommon. When it is used I would say it is taken to mean the concrete has achieved its initial set where the surface can still be worked to achieve a more polished finish but its liquid characteristics are gone. More often than not it is said with a bit of panic because there is more work to be done. I have lived in New England and the Southwest if that helps. I wouldn't think the term was out of place if I read it in the above context.

@tig said: Do you have lots of Materials or Components to be loaded into the browsers ? That will slow it down... Materials - just the standard install stuff, as I rarely do rendering, just splash a bit of color here and there. Can I get rid of or hide the stuff I don't use? Components - I think I have 2-3-4 of them in my template that opens when I start. Nothing crazy - a bunch of boxes (timbers).

Thank you for your answers Shift+Ctrl+E fixed it indeed. I was not aware of this clipping issue. My Model is centered at the origin ; I have some other object at some distance away from the origin, but not so far (about the main object size). I did not import from another CAD system. Purging/fixing the model did not improve the situation. Component axes are fairly normal, except for 90ยฐ rotation. Z-axis is aligned with the main Z. I found out that clipping was coming back when using a Scene where the camera was positionned inside the model (close to the origin). I guess that is the primary reason ?

Martin, That is a clever approach -- great if you just need a rough representation of the model, but inaccurate if Guy needs to actually build from the model. Here is a picture (exaggerated scale) that shows what happens when you scale the top of the stool. The tops of the legs are scaled down as well, making them thinner at the top. [image: 2YgQ_Capture.JPG] Here's how I'd do it, sorry I've no time to make pics: Make the seat, turn into a group/component, move it up to the desired height. Use guidelines to mark where a leg will be on the bottom of the seat, draw the leg and push/pull to length. Make leg into a component as it will have more than one instance in the model and any changes will be updated in all copies. Select the leg and rotate out 15* using the top edge as the hinge. Ensure the leg is positioned correctly, then use 'intersect with model' to miter the top of the leg to fit the seat if necessary. Select the leg and rotate/copy by 120* the component around the center of the seat as Martin suggests in his description above. Guy, does any of this help...Martin's instructions or mine? If you need better descriptions, just ask...someone will help

It can be done with SU on the Mac only. I see you have pro however so you can send the model to LayOut and from there, you can export a png with transparent background. Make sure however to turn off sky and ground first in your Styles dialog > > In model Edit > Background settings. If you make scenes (and save / update this style in SU with them), you can get the same scenes back in LO. Also, from LO you can export much bigger images.

Hi Siia, If that is the case, try to set something under your Window > Model info > Dimensions and Font settings. Maybe try to set them to height instead of pixels (or maybe the problem is that they are set to height...)
