By the way - I happen to have a video tutorial (with annotations) on this subject. At the top left, you can see the delay time counting down - you can always push the play button to go on (do not have to wait if you have already read understood the annotation) YouTube - Creating a Face-me component in SketchUp [flash=480,385:3azh3y60]http://www.youtube.com/v/VvI6A7Njw4k?fs=1&hl=en_US[/flash:3azh3y60]

Thanks. I have been learning to draw plants and trying to keep the poly count down and have been drawing on rectangles. They are fairly sticky but often the lines seem to pop up unexpectedly. The 2d tools works great. Thanks for the tip. You can see my efforts - I am digger on the warehouse.

Here (in the above export, I did not include the two, eastern parts but you can see how extensive the complex is under the GE poligin. also added to some photos there): Old Tanner House.kmz Interesting however that after 1711, it is not subject to archaeology for us here (legally). Previously it was 1686 - the end of the Ottoman/Turkish rule - but then they changed to 1711 (most probably also due to excavations I also took part then lead and on top of a Roman fort we found another one from the first decade of the 18th century when we were fighting one of our almost decennial wars of independence against the Habsburg House)

I think the thing that threw me, and perhaps others here is that it is actually under the view / toolbars menu - why would you look there for a tool or option? cheers rabbit

Well, when yu are measuring (without wanting to add construction geometry), you can just hover over with the tape measure tool (without clicking) and get the measurement. I think (if I remember correctly) this was the reasoning behind making the add function the default if you also click. So if you do not want to guide point, just do not click.

For unzip some files in the same time use this But normaly CTRL + a --> Extract here in a folder must extract all zipped files in one pass ! With WinRar there is no problem! But if some files have same names better extract in separated folder (asked by WinRar)

Hi folks. If the arch is a regular arc, you can use a radial copy using the Rotate Tool. Just ideas.

I would like to share here a technique to export models from 3dsmax Autodesk to google sketchup using 3ds files. Please download the file: DetachElements.mcr in this site: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scrip ... h-elements Then insert this file in the folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\3ds Max 2010\Scripts\Startup I import the model to be exported into the Sketchup into the 3dsmax, I press on the keyboard Alt+NumPad2 and after this Alt+NumPad3. What do these shortcuts? Alt + NumPad2 Separates groups in all elements of the model, using the script mentioned above. Alt + NumPad3 Makes 'Reset Xform'. After that it's only export to Google Sketchup, that objects do not come all messed up. Surely you want to use the plugin CleanUP done by thomthom. Thanks..

try if disabling the "hardware acceleration" (= OpenGL) in the SU OpenGL settings fixes the problem, if yes the OGL support of the used video driver causes the problem. you then might want check the official nVidia driver downloads pages for something more current then your recently installed driver version (which? -> "Start > dxdiag > Display..."). The current version is 266.58 from 18.01.11. Installation preferrably with administrative user rights: right click > run as admin... hth, Norbert

Hi folks. Another possibility is that, even if the model is of reasonable size and relatively close to the axes origin, there migth be a very small and thus difficult to spot stray geometry that is far away from the model and in the line of sight of the camera. This can cause bad clipping problem. If you can spot this stray geometry, delete it and see if the problem goes away. If you cannot see it, use this procedure to get rid of it: 1 - Orbit, pan and zoom in order to have a nice clean view of your model, wothout any clipping. This will insure that the stray geometry will not be in sight of the camera. 2 - Select all. This will select all of your model, including the stray geometry. 3 - Press and hold the SHIFT key to Add/Subtract from the selection. 4 - While still pressing the SHIFT key, select all of your model with a window select. This will deselect the model. The stray geometry should not be deselected, if you deselected only the model. 5 - Press the DELETE key. In the above procedure, if you want to be certain of deselecting only the model and want to avoid deselecting the stray geometry, you can group the model. If the group boundaries look normal, not super large, you can then deselect the group by simply cliking on it while pressing the SHIFT key. By the way, after selecting all, if you make a temporary group and observe that the group bounding box extends way beyong the model size, it is a sure way of telling that therer is, indeed, a stray geometry. Explode that temporary group before continuing with the procedure. Just ideas.

WHat you really probably want to use is something like the subdivide and smooth plugin. Solo has a lot of incredible work shown here on the forums where he makes cartoon characters using that plugin. TRy to dig through the gallery for solo's posts about subdivide and smooth.
