Peculiar Behavior

Hello, all. I have been using Sketchup for some time. I often have a particular problem when I am doing complicated models, and I wonder if this is familiar to anyone. I don't even know what words to use to do a search.
When I divide a face by using lines, so that I can manipulate, push-pull, or delete sections, sometimes I can't select just one section. For example let's say I would have a wall, and divide the wall into a grid 5 rectangles tall and 10 rectangles wide. I could select some of the squares with no problem, but then I might select one square, and instead of being able to choose that square only, the screen will show that a checkerboard arrangement of several squares would get selected. If I use additional lines to separate this checkerboard -- say, a couple of diagonals, I might be able to separate the whole checkerboard into smaller parts, but I can never separate it into individual squares.
I have gone to time-consuming lengths to work around this issue. I would love to be able to save time by solving the dilemma. Any thoughts?

It sounds to me like you have issues with intersecting edges and the face. This does happen sometimes when you have multiple edges crossing each other and are trying to divide up a surface. Just select the offending edges and/or face and go to "edit" and select "intersect". That should take care of it.
There are other issues it could be, but without having an example of the problem surface it is hard to give a specific solution. SU does have issues with small surfaces, so if you've created one of those that SU couldn't subdivide it would leave a "leak" that would cause your selection to not remain within expected bounds. Sometimes SU will create overlapping surfaces when you've done complex manual subdivision, unfortunately the only solution is to manually delete the problem surfaces and rebuild them. Also geomety may be non-planar, so even if you think you've modeled it right, it will not subdivide.
Hope this helps, if you need a specific solution could you please post an example?

This is very similar sounding to the thread where the example was a plaza in which hard lines were drawn to represent tiles. We found that the tile lines were not completely in contact with a slightly distorted surface. Look back in Active Topics 10 to 12 days back.
If I see it I will post back. -
I spent at least an hour last night cleaning up intersections of 6 windows. I thought I was going nuts by the end. Sometimes SU is extremely obnoxious.

Here is the "similar" thread I mentioned: http://www.forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=34189 Some of the discussion may give insight.
