With v8 there's a Preferences setting to allow you to preselect a face then PushPull that - useful if that face is in a recess... I can't reproduce your problem no matter what I do

Tig's explanation gives the logical reason for the behaviour...but of course things aren't always logical. The sides of a road wouldn't bend like that, for instance. I thought some time ago about requesting a new feature for the Offset Tool, activated by holding Ctrl down, but thinking more deeply, it's one of those situations in which the software can't read your mind; it has no idea which lines you want to remain parallel and which to 'doctor'. Mostly, I do what Tig has done and simply delete the weird bits (much easier with the last couple of versions that allow edges to self-intersect) If you really do want to maintain some kind of predictable curvature on the offset, having exceeded the centre of curvature of the outside corners, then use the maths demonstrated in the diagram. This effectively shifts the centre to the middle of the square...so you can run a number of concentric offsets with uniformly smaller corner curves. The easiest solution is, of course, to work from the inside and offset outwards...then you don't get any of these problems and the corner curves will remain mathematically parallel...but probably more rounded than you want by the time you reach the exterior. Tried the sequence you suggest Misto 11, but still no luck. I understood the recommended youtube video... but when I go to 'intall KT materials' thru' the plugin - I'm taken to my KT directory & only have the option the select a file & open it (rather than the window sequence shown on video. I notice you're Windows XP - I'm Windows 7 - could this be another of 7's irritations?

One important thing no matter you hide things or put them on (hidden) layers; NEVER EVER hide or put geometry that is not grouped (or in a component) on to other than Layer 0. If ou want to hide something (or put onto another layer), simply select it > right click and make group. Then hide the group or put it onto any layer you wish. You can always unhide your things from under the Edit menu > Unhide command or even view hidden geometry from the View menu.

If you infer from an edge, you'll get a guideline...which is infinite in length, but which should not be visible through solid surfaces. If you infer from a point, you'll get a short dotted line of whatever length you measured, terminating in a construction point. Again, not visible through solid surfaces. These processes are the same whether you're inferring from raw geometry or geometry inside a group/component. If you get anything else, it's most likely a graphics card issue.

jsax Instead of playing a thousand and one question why not upload the model to the 3 d warehouse so it can be looked like in detail. That would probably save a lots of time?? The model size seems very large 55MB vs what appears should be simple and looks like aliasing but not quite. Make sure you purge your model and get rid of all extraneous things not in the model or I would even go further and get rid of all materials , cleanup removing stray edges and see what happens when coplanar faces are removed although will probably break your model. At that size you may need to zip it to upload if it will compress far enough. For such a simple model why not re draw and see if problem comes back?? What does this look like in just 2d with out the extruded thickness?? Is there any hidden geo causing the large file size? Have you tried w/o hardware accel? Have you tried adjusting the anti alias?? The more I look at image the more I am thinking it is a small size issue. Can you explain why the apparent break across the dia. Use the create. face tool that comes with SU and select the edges of one of those a see if you can force face formation. Is the large file size from other portions of the model you are not showing in the image? BTW way you are around the corner, Littleton here

The Franck stoneware is very durable. I have in daily use some bowls and rectangular serving dishes that, as far as I remember, were purchased by my parents around 1960, and others we bought ourselves in the late 1970s. I still find the simplicity pleasing, and our kind of food looks good in it. Anssi

When I do something similar, I always group the base of the building then the walls of the first floor in a separate group then again, the ceiling of it (which is then the floor of the next storey) into a separate group etc... After this you can put everything on a separate layer and create scenes to be able to work on everything conveniently. Instead of groups, you can of course use components (and have better control of what you are doing)

@tig said: I did get the cup analogy but I wasn't sure the others would ! Really, the cup analogy has pitfalls. First or Third, the right hand view will look identical, be it the hollow inside of the cup, or the bottom of the cup, both would result in a "donut" end view on either side. TRUNCATED CONE! Accept no substitutes.

I found it. FYI it's under: render options> environment sampler> GI (skylight) m> However, it would be great if there were a command bar. Does anyone have a script for this?
