@edson said: pathcopy.rb by rick wilson does the same thing. Hi Edson, i know that one too. from Dave R tutorial or something. on making a lawn chair or deckchair. i think the pathcopy.rb have a little flaw that it might leave some components unaligned to the path. component stringer by the exhibit shows that it has the ability even to modify the alignment. don't know for sure.

FWIW, I didn't have Use Maximum Texture Size ticked when I imported your image. As to what you did differently, before, I guess I don't know. It's possible that instead of setting the length of the material by clicking on the right edge of the rectangle, you clicked on the far horizontal edge and the rectangle wasn't the right width. Might be possible to deconstruct the SKP file to figure it out but since you've now got it sorted, don't look back.

I've never come across this...but frequently come across the opposite...edges unsoftening. From comments here, it seems to be the same cause...an object being left selected for a while, while you're busy with other stuff. It usually happens if I copy/paste from one file to another and forget to immediately deselect the geometry in the intial file after copying. It doesn't need the soften edges dialog open; that's not involved if you are merely opening a file to copy a section of it. The mere action of leaving an object selected is enough.

The functionality of a DC can be affected by the way it is added into you model's SKP. Did you load it from its original downloaded SKP file via the Component-Browser, or Import or Drag+drop or Copy+Paste it etc ? Try the first way and see what happens...

If you have two or more faces that are facing in a very similar direction, you can also right-click on one of them that looks ok, choose Texture > Projected, the sample that face (Paint Tool + Alt) and paint onto all the other faces. This will line all the textures up automatically, so you do not need to adjust each one.

Thanks Alan. I know my way around SketchUp, but I'm a total nitwit in how to count faces etc. I thought the file size/number of faces/navigability were all very much related to each other. My main goal to reduce file size (or better, if I understand correctly: reduce the number of faces) is I don't want to wait 30 seconds every time I click somewhere or move the camera. If it doesn't matter a lot for the navigability of the model, I will indeed stick to my first idea to extrude the entabulature in a separate group. About the column: it is really not that complicated. Much less than I would want it to be anyway. It's a reconstruction, so the idea was to make a "simple" model first and then replace these raw capitals etc later on with very detailed components, modeled from the real remains. But thanks for the link, I guess it might be an idea to project the details as an image onto the simple capitals in stead of making an actual 3D-version. Same for the frieze. Cheers!

I did find that I could overcome it by just getting bigger and bigger with the angles. ie. specifying 352 degrees say, then 380 degrees, then 420 degrees etc. It seems to work. But I actually used a suggestion Aerilius made, which was to get to 359, then do a change to 0 with a duration of 0 so it spun anticlockwise infinitely fast, then carried on with 20 degrees, 80 degrees etc. That also works. But it is all a fudge. Surely there is some way of forcing the rotation to the desired direction.

There's a useful discussion here, with a link to another tutorial using Thom's UV Toolkit plugin.

I am looking for this as well...! Hope someone will make this a ruby... like angular dimension... For now...I sketch in top view...up along green axis... (the text will align to screen...to the right)... the dimensions is put on one by one... from midpoint of component to starting point(zero)... each has text position set at start... I have an example jpg to show...but do not know how to insert here... Edit: Thank you Dan for assistance...! Greetings Jakob. [image: fVSd_dimensionfromzero.jpg]

We call them running dimensions. RD. I like them a lot. Would be good to have in layout maybe someday but there are tons of other things I would like to see first.

Hi Chris, Thanks a lot for your explanation. I'm suffering the same problem with a project I'm working on currently. I just have a couple of questions. About how long does it usually take your model to get this 2D file? About how big are your models? I mean, MB and edges, faces, components? Because in another forum, or post or whatever it's called, someone from Sketchucation explained that it has a lot to do with the time it takes. Thanks again for you information and I hope you could find the time to answer my questions. (Sorry for my English) Best wishes

@mitcorb said: You could intersect those rectangles with your mesh and delete the unwanted protrusions. However, this obviously will affect the regularity of the mesh along the trim planes. That's what I did and cleaning up is real work when the curves have a lot of segments. But I found out that I can use Tapermaker to get the two missing curves. Edit: For the record. Everything can be done with EEbyRails. The "Profile"-Curve is just "Melding-Profile" curve, too. Awesome, TIG! [image: idVZ_2.png]
