Have a look at this thread and you'll see how I got around exactly the same problem.

It's probably a "crap job" DWG file causing the problem. There's a reason that the edge you point out looks thick. Most likely it's two lines very close together. It carries around the arc at the end, too. If that shape was drawn correctly with only one edge along there, the line would display with the same thickness all the way around. Could you post the SKP file showing the problem?

After trying this again, yes, it can be horrible. I set the AA to (4) as I had to give a presentation on a house model (no entourage or interior). It showed pretty well, and I actually accomplished many modifications on screen (a projection setup at the meeting) but it started the beachball spinning just to select an edge. I have tried just doing my modelling on this setting and sometimes it is OK but others it just sucks or crashes. I can only blame it on this (and my weak computer perhaps).

Deleted Sketchup Pro 8 from the desktop XP machine. Re-downloaded Pro 8 and when the toolbars began reloading they were covering a large portion of the screen. I'm thinking now that the toolbar background was covering the whole screen not allowing me to see the design screen behind it. The whole screen was the same color as the background on the toolbars, Bryce or the female version could not be seen on the screen. Don't know how the size of the toolbars changed like they did. Make a separate cylinder inside a group, oriented as desired. It needs to be long enough to project completely through everything it needs to cut. Locate it where desired. Select the cylinder-group and the face that needs the hole. Context-menu > Intersect with Selected A line should now be cut where the cylinder-group intersected the face. Move the cylinder-group away a fixed amount along an axis [type 1111mm] Now you can see the cut. Select and Delete the unwanted face[s]. If you want to keep part of the cylinder inside the newly cut hole then move it back 1111mm. This time edit the cylinder-group and select-all, then Intersect with Model - this time the cylinder will have lines added where the other parts intersect it. To see whats happening you can either Move it away again or use the simpler View > Component Edit > Hide Rest of Model toggle, so everything else is hidden... Erase the unwanted parts of the cylinder, chances are that its curved surface will also be 'backwards' if merged into the rest of the model, so select it and context-menu Reverse. Exit the edit and now you should have what's wanted... Explode the group so it merges with the main geometry as desired... [image: 70pB_Capture.PNG]

The only option in SU is to use Artisan. But don't think you want to model a lions head in SU. This is more something for Zbrush. It is possible in SU but If you want a few details such as the mains and stuff you will reach SU limits soon. Greetz Twan

Gaieus, thx! I do find it curious that sometimes that point works so perfectly for me, and other times (most of the times) it doesn't.

As a proof that units and correct scale on the start of Match photo, I attach scaled beginner file. As I measured distances on GoogleEarth, so have almost exact data. This is almost the scale where the bridge should fit. Measured Distance according GE photo (top down view) is 6734 cm, distance from first pylon base to bush. In my model I have 7025 and I scaled the beginners model to cca 68m. [image: 1zvakp3.png] See the attachment how the scale model looks and "fits". moat_beginner2_scaled.skp

It's a tool cabinet but thanks. If you want to move the geometry inside every component that makes up the door, you'd have to open each one for editing. It's just plain old easier to select the component (blue bounding box) with a single click and rotate the component no matter how the door is constructed. And it isn't that hard to rotate each door individually.

Thanks Rich I was hoping someone would say, "No this inferences your model in Layout and makes perfect, elegant dimensions"

This gave me fits for a while. I couldn't figure out why I could get some components to glue and cut and not others. It seemed that when component axis was at a face, the cut would work, but when I tried to move the axis to the middle of the component, it wouldn't. Then I read Thom Thom's post: It's all about having a closed loop of edges on the red & green axes of the component. The blue axis must be pointing upwards. That is it in a nutshell. To get a component to cut through the face it's glued to, there must be a continuous edge around the component at the component's axis, which is where it will glue itself to the face. Thanks TT. Check out the attachment. Component glue cut.skp

I have done pretty successful matches from other software which also does not have a camera export that could be used in SU by simply exporting an image first and then using SketchUp's match photo function to exactly (or at least as much as possible) match the image with the SU model. (Normally one would go the other way round, true).

Yes you can pick and choose what you wish to copy. It works similar to a backup program, or a 3rd-party CD Burner program. Dave is correct about the toolbar entries. The registry features of SU need some TLC, automatic cleanup etc. It's not hard to resetup the toolbars. Five mins max. Either put your old computer next to the new one for reference, or print out a screen shot. The shortcuts are kept in the registry, but as Gaieus said there is a export/import utility built-in for those. The ones you might wish to migrate, are the savings for WebDialogs or plugins. The WebDialog keys all begin with "WebDialog_" Unfortunately... there is no common prefix for plugin settings keys.

Once you've registered and logged in there is a thumbnail at the end of all the thumbnails that says HDRI... that's your link for the whole set. I think they move the whole set over for unregistered so they can't see the link. workaround of some kind.

I've reinstalled ... Same as before. I also have no plugin menu. Edit: Installation file contains bug which cannot install some files into path containing unicode characters. You could not have the same problem if you installed SU into default path. Now I reinstalled into different path containing no unicode strings. Well, I am not sure if "unicode" is problem, but charset problem is 100%.
