@box said: What you are experiencing is not normal behavior. Yep, I know, seems I am continuing heading down hill with this computer. I was just curious, going to hope an upgrade on the operating system will help. Righ now I am stuck with IE 8. So this could be some of my problems. Ken

I sized the textures to match the original one. I think they should be the same in the attached. Grunge Diamond Plate.zip

It's the well known clipping thing. There are a few different causes. You're in Parallel Projection--switch to Perspective view, hit Zoom Extents and then go back to Parallel Projection if you wish. You're model is a long distance from the origin or there is some geometry at a long distance from the origin. Keep you model close to the origin. Hit Zoom Extents. Does your model get smaller with a bunch of empty space? That empty space contains some stray geometry that needs to be deleted.

Thanks for that. It worked but with some drawbacks. The original image I was using was an Arroway texture so it was tiled. Painting a rectangle with the edited version and then saving it and reimporting loses the tiling. Also, for some reason the original wrapped itself around the tree trunk cleanly, showing little of the faceting that occurs when wrapping a cylinder with a texture but the re-imported image breaks up along the facets. Not sure why. I guess the answer is to go back to the original image, save it under a new name and make the necessary changes in Photoshop. But I find that to be unfortunate because, minor though it may be, SketchUp's material editor seems to always give me exactly what I want, whereas Photoshop tends to feel like taking a battleship out for a Sunday boating on the lake. Anyways, thanks for your reply, I'm sure the technique will prove useful in many situations. Have a good Sunday ...

@solo said: I'd like to know what it is, maybe it can be modeled fast and easy from scratch. It is going to be an inhabitable structure that floats on water (organic pier)- similar to zaha hadid or a frank gehry type form. It will eventually have material, structure, and curtain walls however at the moment im just trying to get a shell of this structure to make a physical 3d model of just the form

Yes, it really is a useful tool, I'm just thinking about how much it could shorten the modelling process for me in some situations. Thanks again!

Hi I get the "importer not found" message as well. I have Sketchup Pro 8 and I'm running Mavericks 10.9 on a MacBook Pro. I've checked the plugins where you indicated and only find 11 plugins. They do not include importer for Autocad or dwg files and there is no KMZ importer either. Please help. I'm not an IT savvy guy. Cheers swell01 @bjanzen said: The palettes is a known thing (we've fixed in a future version). The importer not found is strange. It worked for me just as it did in Mountain Lion. Perhaps repairing permissions, or confirming that it actually is located at /Applications/SketchUp 2013/SketchUp.app/Contents/PlugIns I have 14 plugins in that directory. Do other importers work - e.g. KMZ (Google Earth) would probably be the easiest to test. -b

It should do. The others like my direct mesh maker are cross-system tools - most are and say when they 'are not', not when they 'are'

Hi Solo. Besides sketchup I wont be doing anything too demanding with the computer; checking email, quickbooks etc. I dont do any gaming at all. Im a remodeling contractor so I do want to have the ability to render my model, do a walkthrough, and also hook it up to a flatscreen TV in my showroom ( so the client can see there project coming to life). Thanks.

Did you fix the permissions for correct folder and install into that ? Sketchup.find_support_file('Plugins) Also did you set these FULL permissions to affect all of the folder's contents [cogs dropdown...] Did you get and install the Lib that the tool requires ? http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=TT_Lib

I use both for work. SU is like bringing a knife to a tank fight, there is really little comparison. Although you can use SW to make quick models they are a mess and are very difficult to rework. Where it is incredible is getting to the exact thing you wish to produce that is very complex and requires high precision between them all. SU can do many things, including making files that can be 3D printed just like any other 3D CAD program. SW does not own this domain in any way, lots of students may use it as well as those who work for well heeled companies but if you are not doing complex assemblies with critical relationships, it's not worth your money. I print and machine parts from both programs, they look identical when they are done regardless of which program they are drawn in. Autodesk has a suite of free programs you can use to make files for printing you may wish to try. A well drawn part in SU will print just fine, you need to ensure its a solid to not have problems. Use the least geometry possible and you will be much happier.

Have you set the permissions for the Plugin folder correctly? That's the most common cause for plugin installation to fail.

TT's SoildInspector will highlight problems with things that are preventing your group/component from being a 'solid'. Obvious holes, missing faces etc can be fixed manually. A simple way to remove 'internal partitions' is to edit the object and make a temporary section-cut so you can access them for selection: click a face of an internal partition and press <delete> to remove it. Repeat, finally select and delete the temporary section-cut, and re-test for 'solidity' - 'Entity Info' will say 'Solid' in its top-bar if it is... There are tools to 'heal' non-solids - my SolidSolver is one of them. However, these will fail if you have extremely convoluted multiple issues, as fixing one sometimes creates or changes another...
