Thank you. Now just to figure out how to guide the new copies of my plug-ins to the 2014 version of SU. Plug-in of choice and the one I would worry about the most - LightUp. I will check on their forum to make sure I can install a fresh and separate copy on Make 2014 and still maintain my SU8 in it's current state.

@howling wolf said: Another question I have is regarding a good source for plugin downloads...Is there any one, trustworthy site for downloads? Your profile indicates you're using SketchUp 8. If you upgrade to 2014, you'll get automatic access to a feature called the "Extension Warehouse". As eneroth3 cited, you can use the Extension Warehouse to install plugins directly within SketchUp. That takes all of the guesswork out of it and makes plugin installation dead-simple! Andrew

Here is an example of a messed-up solid, and how to create it. Works every time. I'm astonished that such a basic operation would cause a problem. In my experience, if I work an 8-hour day doing complex mechanical assemblies with SU, at least 1 hour is spent fixing solids. Happened again yesterday, with very simple parts: flat plates or angle iron with holes punched through them. Seems as if every other time I move the holes or change their dimensions, the whole thing goes ka-boom and I have to start over. Messed up solid.skp

@olaydigitaldesign said: This is some serious nonsense, am I right ladies and gentlemen? Yes, it was down for a little while on Sunday because the database server backing the warehouse filled up. A monitoring system was supposed to alert us before it caused a problem so we could address it proactively, but the alarms were configured to the wrong threshold and didn't fire. That meant we didn't know about the impending problem until it was an actual problem. We've resized and reindexed the database and fixed the alarm threshold, so all is well again. Sorry for the inconvenience. Andrew

I thought the native OBJ exporter came with Pro only Please explain... There is my clunkier OBJexporter Ruby, BUT that [unlike the Pro version] doesn't have the option to NOT triangulate faces. You need to deal with the triangulation in the receiving app... Can you try another format like DAE ?

Tig's Slicer5 might work for this.

@tig said: If the View settings ought to show faces, then perhaps it's a Graphics Card issue... Preferences > OpenGL Try switching 'Fast Feedback' off [or on] and see if that helps... Or select a lower AntiAlias setting if there's a list... Also check that your GC's driver is up to date... Thank you TIG, Switching fast feedback on seem to have worked. Thanks for taking the time to help me!

Search for topics on 'Organic' forms. Here's one with a specialist sub-forum: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=335 The tools needed are things like Artisan, VertextTools, CurviLoft and my Extrusion tools... These are available from the PluginStore and have their own threads too...

Go to Window>Preferences>OpenGL and change the setting for Use hardware acceleration and/or Use fast feedback. You might also check for updates for the GPU driver. Why it got changed is difficult to say.

The Extension Warehouse has a lot of plugins. At the bottom of the EW window it shows 242. But there's a little overlap between the Plugin Store and EW.

I never see any ads here that are not sketchup related. I often hear about or see things for the first time in these ads. I would add an exception in your blocker for SketchUcation.

Hi Ming, I looked at the .ply file you posted. It contains only points with no face data. i am not sure what is crashing SketchUp, but my .ply importer does not import points - it uses the points to create faces. There is no face data in the .ply file. Do you want to view the point cloud in SketchUp, or did you want to view a mesh made from the point data in SketchUp? My extension can not create a mesh from points. Use MeshLab to create a mesh from the point data. Then you can export the mesh and try to import in SketchUp again. It is probably a good idea to clean and simplify the mesh in MeshLab before exporting.
