If your model is very large and/or you are drawing something very far from the model origin, you can get effects like that when SketchUp and the OpenGL hardware can't track locations consistently with each other due to computer arithmetic limitations.

There's a features request forum here on SCF. You could start there. FWIW, I prefer the behavior of adding layers as it is so if they make a change, I hope it is a user-selectable option. Of course I guess they say that's why they opened up the API to allow users to write plugins/extensions to add features. I hope you find the plugin helpful.

Thank you, John, for your help. I will immediately put your naming-convention suggestion to use.

As Dave says, SU uses only a single core, so there is no benefit to quad vs duo unless you have enough other things running at the same time to fill all your cores. However, SU will benefit from a faster clock rate or from a faster CPU architecture, so potentially an i7 might be faster than an i5 depending on details - but we're talking about incremental, not for example a factor of 2 or more.

Yes. Change it in a new file and save it as the default template.

Have you tried logging in ? It's usually a one time only requirement. Use your SketchUcation membership name and password. Once you have done it, then you should never get prompted again ?

I found the group within my 12 meg model causing the issue. If I explode it, it exports. must explode before exporting 3d to cad.skp

@airwindsolar said: @slbaumgartner said: This is one of the known problems SketchUp has with very high dpi displays: If 1920x1080 is "very high dpi" then their first problem is that they haven't moved into the current decade yet. Please re-read the earlier posts. He was talking about 3000x2000, which I think is still considered very high dpi.

It is certainly possible, though not simple, to model the hull of a boat using SketchUp. But I'm a bit unclear about your assignment. In what form have you been "given a floorplan", and what are the characteristics of the space you are supposed to design? As Dave says, the shape of a boat is usually quite complex compared to a house, with few rectangular rooms and few flat or vertical surfaces. By "design", do you mean to plan the layout and materials for the interior furnishings the way an interior designer would do for a house? There are also special considerations that have to be given to materials and design to allow for the damp and sometimes actively wet conditions in a boat. Do you have background for this? If not, you have a lot to learn about boats before you need to worry about SketchUp!

I needed a similar result in order to export to Revit. Here's a link to that post and the solution. Thanks to sdmitch. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=62940

TIG, that sounds like a the type of solution I would be looking for, although I was hoping there was an existing plugin that does something similar It does seem like good practice for some scripting though, so I will definitely give it a shot in the coming 2-3 weeks (I am pretty basic at scripting as well, so it will take me quite a bit of time)! Pilou, I am not sure I understand. My problem would be that I would not only have to apply each of the 200 different textures (not repeated as in my example screenshots), but also adjust them to fit perfectly within the hexagons. Could ThruPaint help with that as well? From what I gather from the descriptions I read, it doesnt really have functionality for this purpose?

Warning! "It will realign North in each processed view, but all recent versions of SketchUp allow only one North at a time, so you'll need to copy the model's SKP for each shadowed view and use the scene-tabs to get proper shadows..."
