      hi.
i am exporting my work as a jpeg for placement in Adobe Indesign.
however, the image saved includes the grey background. I can get rid of it in photoshop, but it spoils the resolution. when i view the same image in print preview within sketchup, the grey [blue?] background has disappeared.

how do i switch off the background prior to exporting?
and is there any way of increasing the actual resolution?

      thanks.
      from a very new user.

Grey background? Are you modelling with the default sky and ground still in place? Are you wanting no background at all (vignette) or just wanting a flat white one?

The answers lie (mostly) in Window > Styles > In Model (little house) > Edit. The Middle icon will allow you to get rid of the sky and ground and set the overall background to plain white.
If you want a clear background, you are going to have to set the background colour to something like a greenscreen effect, then composite in Photoshop.

You can edit the export resolution on your export dialog box....under Options. They are hiding in plain sight at the bottom right. Uncheck Use screen resolution, uncheck Anti-alias (PS's bicubic resammpling is quicker and better), export at a higher res than you need and scale down in PS. You can go up to 9999 pixels square....unlesss you are using the free version, in which case ignore what I just said.

Alan...a side question, if you please: In PSP I have to do the bicubic reduction in small steps to get a reasonable result...is PS's engine better enough to do it all at once?

I've never compared them Tom, but the PS resampling always been good enough for what I need. I'm not too picky about the degree of resampling either...probably just a philistine.
Paul Miller swears by a particular ratio of reduction, but I can't remember what it is...probably exporting from SU at 1/2 up or double what you need as a final result.
