    If im understnading you correctly, you can just select all the lines you want to hide then right click one of them->soften/smooth. Youll then need to play about with the slider untill youve softened all the lines.

    Although those shapes are not exactly like Taff's gravity well (which could be made by using the follow me tool to lathe the shape), they could easily be made with certain plugins. Have a look at Soap Skin and Bubbles and Bezier Patch. They are perfect for kind of regolar, still organic shapes.

    This is very good advise- it will save you from troubles down the road in your work flow if you follow it. I find that in the end it's not at all as difficult to actually keep organized as you might thing at first. If you keep even simple things organized it is becomes habit; and since large SU models are only a bunch of small models put together, you should never have trouble if start out with good habits.

    Hi, i have a problem when i write this code: Create the WebDialog and set its HTML file face_dialog = UI::WebDialog.new path = Sketchup.find_support_file "Ch13/create_face.html", "Plugins" face_dialog.set_file path Set the WebDialog's callback face_dialog.add_action_callback("create_face") {|d, arg| if arg.to_s.length == 0 puts "Invalid input. Coordinates must be valid numbers." else v = arg.to_s.split(",") pt1 = Geom::Point3d.new(Float(v[0].strip), Float(v[1].strip), Float(v[2].strip)) pt2 = Geom::Point3d.new(Float(v[3].strip), Float(v[4].strip), Float(v[5].strip)) pt3 = Geom::Point3d.new(Float(v[6].strip), Float(v[7].strip), Float(v[8].strip)) pt4 = Geom::Point3d.new(Float(v[9].strip), Float(v[10].strip), Float(v[11].strip)) vec1 = pt2 - pt1 vec2 = pt2 - pt3 plane = [pt1, vec1 * vec2] if pt4.on_plane? plane Sketchup.active_model.entities.add_face pt1, pt2, pt3, pt4 else puts "Invalid input. Points must lie on the same plane." end end } Display the dialog box if RUBY_PLATFORM.index "darwin" face_dialog.show_modal else face_dialog.show end the unit appare in inches but mi template in setting in mm.How i can have it in mm? thanks and sorry for my english

    Dear Max, Clever and instructive explanation. And certainly a very useful tool. (i have fought some time ago with that spiral shape and haven't found in this time such a tool [image: horseshoestair_Final5.jpg] ) ;-)simon

    The problem is that the follow me tool explodes the curve and it is no longer a curve entity (with the center point inference). Now you found the answer - this ruby simply rocks and after a while you will even forget that it is not a native SU tool that you have been using for ages (also download the weld ruby - invaluable help!).

    Your network might be the culprit too, if you are printing the file to a network drive. You might try printing to the desktop or some other local folder and see how it goes. I often get corrupt image files when exporting to a network location, and they usually are OK when exported to a folder on my desktop. I am also suspecting the network for the similarly truncated PDFs (with some lines and texts missing) we recently got when printing to PDF from AutoCad with Adobe Acrobat, and that printed perfectly when repeated another day. Just suggestions Anssi

    Hey Guys, Many thanks for your responses, looks like I am certainly not the only one with this little dilemma. I think I might have to persevere with SPIRIT. It allows you to reference a sketch-up model into SPIRIT and work in SU which auto updates. I will have a look at power Cad, sounds interesting. A good example of what I am talking about came in to the office this morning. It is an upgrade of an existing shop tenancy. They want presentation 3D's to present to the Body Corporate for approval as well as a builders Preliminary price. So if I was able to produce some professional looking preliminary design 2D drawings from my SU model I could knock it out quite quickly and effectively along with an outline spec. I look forward to the day where Google are able to offer a plugin or even a very simple cad system designed around SU and as Intuitive as SU. If I had had the time and expertise I would do it myself Stan

    The animated people could be the beginning of something bigger like "Sketch Up world" Me, and I think a lot of people out there are getting bored of the way 3D buildings look like in Google Earth. I admit it was a great idea to create 3D cities and houses and see them in GE, in 3D. BUT I think it is time to realize that SU has much more to offer to the Community then only to serve this (again increasingly boring feature) one purpose online. I would like to see SU evolve into a tool to create fun online 3D worlds and community spaces. Sure there are already a lot of "this" out there but why not use SU and Google Earth in a more progressive/fun way. I would Call this Sketch Up World. With new ideas like trainable people, trains cars boats that can do things and move in this new created space. wouldn't be so bad would it?

    I have heard about it but I do not know much about that issue, I personally try not use textures larger than 512 x 512 in SU.

    Hi, I have used CAD for years. At first I thought SU was inexact but I just needed to learn how to use it--and for architectural work it's fine. Also I've seen extensive mechanical engineering work on it. Use the measuring tape tool, protractor, snapping and inferences. There's demos on these. Try Aidanchopra.com videos. For some things commonly done in CAD it will not be as efficient. Big thing in CAD is effective dimension and text tools. Actually spend a lot of time on that side of things for working drawings and SU is limited there. It is not a CAD program, designed for making working drawings and such. I've seen it incorporated in a CAD workflow. But it is not a toy if you use it right for modeling. Just check out the Gallery. I've heard mention of one person trying to use exclusively SU for working drawings. Try using in conjunction with a simple CAD 2d program that can export DXF or DWG. I actually don't know of a cheap one, or if that would be reliable enough for you.

    At 9MB it's very unlikely to have started life as a SU model. The warehouse is full of cars converted from Max or Lightwave (mostly) that have been imported into SU then modified.
