I find some textures apply to the model and display as a colour. But some don't.

Are any of the textures TIFF by any chance?

[quote="AkaBear"I also find that I end up with multiple materials on a face sometimes and the only way to avoid this is to start with a blank and adulterated model if wishing to change materials.
Can you post a screenshot? I'm not sure what you mean by this.

    Ditto Scott.
There's so many things that could be the cause. Often it's multiple causes.

Also, please post what SU version and what V-Ray for SketchUp version you use. The various version behave quite differently on some areas.

FYI: the ASGVis forums is a good resource.

    No problem.
There's a few quirks in VfSU. The ASGVis forums are a good resource to find ways to deal with them.

What version do you have by the way? The original?

Well, if the buyer is outside the jurisdiction of the seller, no VAT should be charged.

For example, Skype charges me no VAT, because they're located in Europe, and I'm in Ecuador.
When I buy something from Adorama Camera (NY) and have it sent to Miami, FL, I have to pay no taxes, but if I have it sent to Brooklyn, NY then I do have to pay the NY state tax.

This is correct. For another example, we are located in Springdale, AR USA so customers who are located in Arkansas USA and purchase products from us have to pay a state tax fee. Taxes are only required for customers located within the state that our company resides in.

Just downloaded and installed VRay V1.5. Does the render make background black for you?

Yes, by default it does. They changed the default settings so it doesn't use the Sky or the Physical Camera. To use the old default settings load the 'sketchup_default' setting.

Thx for the reply. I was too hasty as it came as bit of a shock to see my rendering go black. I am beginning to figure out the settings now sorry for the bother. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Do you use the V-Ray for SketchUp manual?

Have a look at the V-Ray manual (non-specific to host system): http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/

hmmm... failed to find anything about the subject in this manual... ๐Ÿ˜ž (but there were some good examples about the physical sky)

Thanks for the advice, but I traced the problem to an outdated version of v-ray. Apparently a new release was recently made available that fixes such bugs. Still great advice for future problems.

Sounds like a lighting issue more than a material issue. Try rendering without physical camera in vray and see if that helps.

    Krisu,

MAT files are for MAX Vray. There is a converter but you will need 3DMAX to convert those files and it is really not a smooth process. Your best bet is to use .vismat files that are made for Vray for Sketchup. There are many available in the downloads section at the Vray site. Your can also download the material editor and make your own which is truly the best option. This way you have full control over the materials you are using not to mention they will be custom materials that you created so your renders will have that custom look. Good luck.

    Scott

Thanks for the info. I am a bit unsure about purchasing Vray as there are free renderers out there like indigo (too slow on my duo core lappy) now... It is a lot of money and I am right now a student so I can't afford it. I bought a license for Podium but don't really like it as much as Vray that I used from my office. What am I supposed to do? There isn't a Educational copy of Vray for SU is there?
