Not being a vray user i cant really tell you, but if theres an 'HDRI' option somewhere that would be something to look in to.

Youd need to find some HDRI images, though: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rlz=1C1CHMG_enGB291GB303&q=free+HDRI&btnG=Search&meta=

You need to get a 360 degree image of the environment you want. Preferable and HDRI image. Then go to the Environment section, under Options, and click on the M next to Background and change map type from Sky to Bitmap.

You will also have set the texture mapping to environment and select the type of layout your environment texture has. (Spherical, cube, etc...)

Also, if you use Physical Camera you have to adjust the Multiplier as well. If you use the original VfSU you need multipliers around 20000-40000, with SR1.0 and later it's much lower, 5-20 maybe.

for some reason, this does not works for me.

whenever I use a bitmap image on the background, when I try to render, I get a BLACK background!

              Did you adjust the multiplier?

which of the multipliers? The ones INSIDE the Background Texture dialog box? Or the one at the side of the Background M, at the Main Environment dialog?

EDIT: forget it... I adjusted the multiplier INSIDE the texture box and it worked (funny, I SWEAR I had done the same thing yesterday with no results).

Now, I just need to understand how to use skies at VRAY. The manual doesnt explains VRAY´s mapping.

I downloaded a few skies from here: http://www.cgtextures.com/ (inside the Skies 360 folder)

I downloaded both the normal images as well as a few Cubic360 panos.

The cubic format it utilizes certainly is not supported by VRAY. Now... WHAT FORMAT of cubic is supported by VRAY? The one from the site got all mixed up.

And the normal pano... if I set as spherical, it also occupies 360 degrees vertical (and gets stretched), since it should only occupy 360 degrees horizontal on the upper half... line above the horizon.

Do you use the V-Ray for SketchUp manual?

Have a look at the V-Ray manual (non-specific to host system): http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/

hmmm... failed to find anything about the subject in this manual... 😞 (but there were some good examples about the physical sky)
