%(#000080)[I had this problem with Layout 3 when installed SU 8, in Vista,
the key to solve it was to click the right buttom of the mouse when pointing to Layout icon and choose] RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
it was a known issue, try it, it may work for you too.

Maybe have a layer lock act in one way (as it does now), but then also allow individual objects to be locked (where double click doesn't allow text edit)

Thanks, I hoped that there would have been another way to do that but it seems that's the only way to go trough the problem!

I am also having trouble with templates not printing correctly, I am missing about an inch from the RHS and half an inch from the top & the print preview is as per the previous message. This happens even when I use a standard templates. Is there some way to fix this? I have tried to adjust margins this makes no difference. I am using a HP 8700 A3/ A4 printer. I wonder if the bug has something to do with layout & HP printers? as it happens on both of my HP printers yet these printers print perfectly in progams other than layout. I have not noticed any other threads so these must be an isolated instances, which also makes me think I am doing something wrong. I would greatly apreciate any advice as I can not use layout until I can over come this problem.

(Besides, to be honest, I never found answers for that workaround. And it hurts when you need to switch SU off to go elsewhere to finish. It's so much fun! the nearly best design e-tool I've ever had. The very best one will be SULO 7... I hope) πŸ˜„

Shawn, let us know if you got this working.

For others, there is a problem with some mail systems that take a look at a .layout file and, realizing it's a zip file, do you the wonderful favor of unzipping it. Thank you not at all. But both Mac and PC have built-in zip capability. Since Shawn was on Mac, to re-zip and make a LayOut document:

In Finder, select the files (things like doc_thumbnail.png, document.xml, documentProperties.xml, references.xml, styleManager.xml and the directories pages and ref).

Right click on this selection, and choose "Compress X Items" where X = # of items you selected. For 10.4 (Tiger), I believe it says "Create Archive" instead. Either way, you now have a file called "Archive.zip"

Rename "Archive.zip" to your original file name .layout (answer yes to "are you sure"), and voila, it's a LayOut document.

    Hi everyone

    Thanks for your input.

It seems to me, that LO has to many bugs / to slow / to hassle...

So I'm back using Indesign, but I will keep an eye on LO πŸ˜„

I had this problem once as well. I ended up unlinking the file, linking it to another, unlinking again and linking back to the correct (updated) SU model file. That worked as the LO didn't want to update the file with the updated model file with the same name as the one used in LO. So I solved it "old school" style.

Hmmm... thought I responded but it didn't show up, so I'll try again (sorry if it's a duplicate):

I responded in Google Groups as well, but we will take a look. Please remain patient - having worked in the printing industry for um, longer than I'd like to admit, to have one printer and printer driver not working on Windows should not come as a shock to inhabitants of this planet. We will try to reproduce and fix this, but please be patient. It is simply impossible for us to look at every printer and every driver, but when we hear reports we will hunt them down and squash them like the bugs that they are. The Google Groups report involved a print server - does this one as well, or is it directly connected? Do you have a Mac in the office and have you tried printing with the Mac driver?

Please explain why you're importing into publisher?

Thanks for any additional information you can provide to help us solve this.

[edit] okay so i just realized which forum this was posted in (i use view new posts instead of browsing individual forums)... at least i now realize what 'LO' stands for in the above posts.. please ignore the following πŸ˜„

maybe i'm not understanding your problem correctly but i just tried -->

--open two windows - one set to decimal/mm and the other to architectural/inches..

--in the decimal window, draw a circle measuring 20,000mm diameter and group it..

--copy that group and paste it into the architectural window..

    --measure the diameter which is ~65' - 7 3/8"

    that's a correct conversion...

is this not what you're trying to do?

Thata the thing though, the component i wanted to copy across was jsut a small one, hardly worthy of its own file. It would make far more sense if you could jsut copy and paste it into layout.

Apart form this, im quite liking layout, it seems very intuitive.
