Print quirks in Layout
-
I'm just starting to use Layout to print SketchUp models, and hope this feedback is useful to improve the beta version I'm using (the latest available).
I'm running Windows Vista (SP1), with a connection to a networked HP DeskJet 1200C printer (using A4 and A3 paper).
Three comments (1 & 2 seem like bugs to me, 3. is a missing feature):
-
Printing to A4 landscape paper seems to ignore any page margin set in the File/Page Setup menu, and doesn't print part of the 'top' of the landscape page. I've drawn a border on the page at the outer edge of the paper grid (which in turn is set to 'clip to printer margins' in Document Setup), but the 'top' border doesn't print and part of the drawing is missing too, though not a lot. Also, when I change the grid from metric to imperial, the grid displays outside the printed area.

Print Preview only shows about 2/3 of the width of a landscape page. The right hand side is blank where the rest of the SketchUp model should be, and only part of a text label added in Layout is visible on this part of the page. This is often a symptom of lack of memory in other programs, but I've got 4GB in this machine, and an Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 processor, with no other major programs open, so it isn't a machine resource issue.

There are no ISO A-size templates, only Letter and Tabloid US paper sizes, for American users. What about International users?
Is there any workaround (other than 'printing' to PDF) for the missing print area, and/or the preview bug? I have an nVidia GeForce 9500 graphics card, with the latest available drivers as of a few weeks ago.
Thanks for a great program, nonetheless.

A few answers in reverse order:
-
We've thought about what the right amount / size of templates would be, and we could add lots in large sizes, but it becomes a matter of what value do we deliver for the increased product size. I think the feeling was that it's not too hard to create (File->Save as Template and then you get exactly what you want), but I guess you'd vote for more. We'll note that.

We have a bug filed on this.

We've observed similar things in rare situations, and one of the cases seems to involve printing to a non-default printer. Sometimes, simply opening Page Setup and opening the Printer panel was enough to fix incomplete page printing.
I've pinged a couple of resources at HP to try to reproduce any of these. As always, another workaround is PDF export and printing from Acrobat.

I am also having trouble with templates not printing correctly, I am missing about an inch from the RHS and half an inch from the top & the print preview is as per the previous message. This happens even when I use a standard templates. Is there some way to fix this? I have tried to adjust margins this makes no difference. I am using a HP 8700 A3/ A4 printer. I wonder if the bug has something to do with layout & HP printers? as it happens on both of my HP printers yet these printers print perfectly in progams other than layout. I have not noticed any other threads so these must be an isolated instances, which also makes me think I am doing something wrong. I would greatly apreciate any advice as I can not use layout until I can over come this problem.
