Look at the orientation of the faces that make up the "cylinders" relative the camera. When I've seen this sort of thing before, the orientation of those edges is such that they aren't on the profile or the geometry. The edges are being hidden due to the edge on view of the neighboring face. You might increase the width or Profile Edges to 2 or 3 and see if that helps. I've always ended up fixing the model though.

    Hi,

I have been looking at the Excel table into LO thing (or lack of in the PC version). Here is my offering:

Create your table in Excel with cell widths, heights, font size and formulas. Make sure that any editable data can be copied and pasted as a block (for convenience).
Format a matching area in the spreadsheet as a swap area.
Select the entire table, copy and paste into LO. The table comes in as an editable text block with cells bordered in black lines.
Make any changes to data in individual cells. Note, no formulas are copied just the numbers.
Double click in the text box which will select all cell data.
Copy and then paste back into the Excel sheet but in the formatted swap area.
Select the data to be changed and paste into the original table position.
    The formula results will update.
Start back at the beginning! Re-copy the updated table and double click in the LO text box, paste.

Not perfect but seems to work. Basically it is a way of re-calculating a table using Excel and not having to do it manually.

Not that I know of (and ruby isn't yet(?) implemented in layout)

You could however assign it to a keystroke.
(which IMO is even better than an icon shortcut)

…and just to include us Maconauts, the Character Viewer and Keyboard Viewer apps can be added to the menubar from the SystemPreferences|Keyboard pane - tick the 'Show Keyboard & Character viewer in menubar' checkbox.

You can get all sorts of interesting characters.

Ever head of the 'Z notation schema composition' symbol? - ⨟ - Nor me.
    Asterism - ⁂
    Degree - °
    Plusminus - ±
    Diameter - ⌀
Blank symbol - ␢ (but it's not blank!)

Do you mean that the printer is not printing the edges of your project? It could be that the printer's margins are wider than those you have set in LayOut. You can reset the margin width in Document Setup in LO to suit the margins of the printer.

The simplest and best fix is to avoid double clicking the viewport to change the camera position/zoom level. It's better to make the changes to the scene in SketchUp so the viewport remains connected to the scene. You can resize the viewport in LO but don't open it to change the view.

    Thanks Gaieus,
Just thought it might be handy if there was a way to type it direct into a field in the View window so you dont have to set it in the prefs. I guess I just need to spend a bit of time getting my LO template sorted out with the most commonly used scales.
    Cheers

I don't have a problem, if I did I'd have retained my ArchiCAD subscription. This thread started as a question of working methods, but it has evolved into what I hope are constructive suggestions for the future partnership of SU & LO.

I appreciate your responses but we clearly have different backgrounds and agendas for what we "expect" from the software. ☀

"An option to input measurements in different scales 1:1, 1:5, etc. Useful for drafting on top of ortho views.
    Components!!!!"

Yes, let me second this Motion. Drawing in Layout on top of a Sketchup model (viewed in a viewport) to SCALE of the model would be sweet. I often develop "concepts" in Layout that I then export to Presentation software that I use to display at workshops (large groups).

Making all overlay graphics readily to scale would be very nice.

Thanks Dave R, cool script. I will definitely be making use of this - this afternoon in fact. It would be even more useful if you could auto assign sequential page numbers in LO too. You could then associate the page numbers to the file numbers? But still a very useful tool and one that will be seing some action soon.

I would still like to know if it might be possible to name PDFs from pages within LO at some time in the future. Our studio like many others names files to send to contractors and being able to ref the names from within LO would be such a great way to keep files in order.

    Thanks again

A few of my own findings...

Fairly obvious but dimensions don't autoscale after exploding the view not a problem, just set the scale manually.

You can "clip" a plan with the rectangular viewport before exploding, but you can't apply a clipping mask and then explode.

I have quite a few layers in my drawings and exploding makes editing or manually trimming seem quite complex.

Ok - have had someone technical look at this and got this email

" The problem is linked to mapped drives within windows, your colleague has a drive mapped for the server and the working folder to a letter i.e P(drive):
So when you try and open on the MAC, the mac is not aware of the drive letter so has to be relinked.
Possible way around this is to try and put the objects within the same folder and you use /<filename> "

I know packages like Adobe Indesign don't struggle with issues like this in terms of referencing files on a network - is it possible for SU and LO work in a similar way so that PC and Mac users can both reference files in the same way? Is this something that Google might address in the future?

    Thanks
