Try exporting to PDF with the pixelated version. Pretty sure you'll be OK on the output side of things. If not, its a really weird bug. I have had no issues with PDFs exporting properly.

I'm sorry for my criptic answer. I don't usually give those.

The fact is that if you use texts in sketchup and then rotate the viewport, texts will also rotate and you'll probably be annoyed with the result. So for good results what you should do is not rotate the viewport in layout but, do it in Sketchup. There's a lot of ways of doing it. One of the most effective is by using a plugin from Thomthom called camera tools.

For your last question, that rotation handle on Layout doesn't infere to any angle...

I hope I've helped this time, best regards,

Just to see if those bugs were because of the comma config, i put commas back. And those zoom and keyboard problems disappear. Problem: if i save it with commas, it will mess up the whole thing. Now i'm configuring back to points everytime i save it.
    That's so very strange.

You see, my local configuration is a comma, because we use commas instead of points. While my Windows is in Portuguese, my Sketchup is in English (The translation is so rubish, it pisses me off). Do you think if i change my sketchup language to portuguese, those problems will disappear?

Not only that one can't print to scale another stupid thing is preview, all pages only. Printing in layout is extremely obnoxious. Also crashing, when printing, exporting, previewing.... Shame that these Trimble people can't see that. Tones of mickey mouse plugins but not one that does the real thing.. Also software's 32bit legacy and lack of real kick power behind it irrespective of what machine or GPU one uses?! Most of the work done via processor thus crashing... After all pain of assembling construction drawings etc. at the end a real pain to print it out?? That's a joke.. From Sketchup to Layout to Mental Clinic... I have a project comprising 30 detailed drawings, can't print them, export them, preview them.. I use capture software to paste all drawings in image software and print them there... Every time I attempt crash after crash, bug splut etc. Sent file to Sketchup with level 4 support man telling me that I am one of the two on the planet earth with this problem. Can't believe that they are trying to make a nag run like a thoroughbred, and at the same time pretend that everything is fine?!. Whole software should be re-written. True solids, 64 bit, proper GPU integration, contemporary GUI, Transparent Skethup-Layout interface, list goes on. I've been using it since 2003. Love and hate relationship. Presentation, visualisation, animation, brilliant. Serious construction, detailing, simply as it currently stands in particular Layout, crap. One day my prince will come, hopefully... Sorry I went a bit of tangent, but my pain is immense...[/size]

Yeah I've sussed the moving of the Anchor point for snapping, but having two, one to lock an anchor point and one to stretch / shrink a scene would be really handy.

I would not want this to change, at least for my workflow. There are times when I want to see offset dimensions, especially when detailing in 3d. All of my plans & sections are generated through the section tool which by default creates a 2d plane that LO follows very well. If LO automatically flattened, it would eliminate the possibility of offset dimensions (which are accurate to their 3d arrangement) as shown in that link. Had those three rectangular cubes been dimensioned via use of the section tool, they would be accurate to their 2d displacement.

    Just my 2 selfish cents.

Not sure how a custom aligned view would be detrimental. It would be user controlled. Use it if you want or ignore it if you wish. Just looking for an option that would work as ortho views are traditionally used, i.e.flattened. Using a section plane work around is clever, but it is still a work around for a "Layout" flaw IMO.

Sketchup team should address this and fix it in such a way that "Layout" will treat any ortho view (standard or custom) as a flattened view with the 2d dimensioning accuracy that is reasonably expected. If offset dimensions are required, then a 3d view with dimensions could be used.

Not ready or willing to suspend drafting convention, when the fix is possibly simple. Even if it is not simple,it is a task worth under taking in order to have LO become a seriously considered 2d presentation/construction documentation solution.

BTW, Sonder your work is impressive.

You could make a dashed line style but you can't apply a style to only some lines so you'd have to do something with multiple image exports that you later combine in an image editor.

There is a dashed line plugin from Smustard that could be used. I used to use it but since LayOut 3 came along, I don't use it anymore.

So far I haven't found any problems with precision. Sometimes the endpoints on the model don't appear to line up correctly with the dimensions (or is it the other way around?) but it's possible to fix that by slightly resizing the viewport. It would be nice if that wasn't needed.

The way I think about locating the standard views is to imagine the part is laying in the bottom of a bowl and you're looking down into it.. Let's say that's the front view. If you want the top view, slide the part up the side of the bowl away from you. For the right end view, slide the part to the right and up the side of the bowl.

Though this is an older post and I am wondering if a solution has been found.
This is an issue for me also when creating architectural drawings that are geo-located, and wishing to dimension them in Layout,

My current work around is the following workflow

Geo-Location -> Add Location Measure angular offset (A) of a dominant axis of the building floorplan (as seen in the Google Earth Satelite Image) from the Sketchup default Y-Axis Make a copy of the Geo-Location Images, and rotate these by the negative angle from previous step (-A). These can now be used for tracing the floorplan etc Adjust Solar north by an angle of (-A)

Now I can get orthographic dimensions in layout for the standard views ( but not for any aligned views unfortunately)
Solar North will be correct, as will be Latitude and Longitude.
Drawbacks are the hassle of this workaround and the fact that I am only to get orthographic dimensions from the standard 6 views, whereas elevations offset from these are quite common.

See below for a simplified example showing the problem.
The red box has been drawn with the axis at default orientation, the green box was drawn with axes rotated 30degrees from the standard axis orientation.
The first view is a standard front view using parallel projection, and all orthographic dimensions are correct.
The second view has been aligned to the green front face, and is also a parallel projection. This view also has Ortho activated in the model settings in layout. Note that the red box shows 3d dimensions and not orthographic

Oh, and on Mac, it's command-t the same universal text box on all Mac apps, except we've added a few things at the bottom for anchor point and bounded/unbounded.

    Sorry for slow reply.

I think I've sorted it now. I think my problem had more to do with me not understanding how SU & LO interact with each other.

Making the changes to the shadows in SU then updating the scene via the Scene dialogue and then saving the model in SU seems to update the view/scene in LO.

    Thanks for your reply

On the Mac, the templates are located inside the app (more traditional Mac install) in /Applications/Google\ SketchUp\ 8/LayOut.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Templates. That way, when you throw away the app the templates and scrapbooks get cleaned up as well, plus if we chose to localize them, they'd be there in a per-language basis. All stuff we were working on years ago at Google, then went other directions. But hey, we're back now, working on new, good stuff for Trimble. 😄

    Bonjour,
