    @mykape said: How to install Sketchup Make 2017 (this old version is necessary, so the dynamic parasols can be used) Bep is correct. Correct installation of SketchUp on Windows 10 requires the user to right click on the installer and choose Run as administrator. And of course if this is being used for other than hobbyist use, SketchUp Pro is required. SketchUp Make is not licensed for commercial use.

    Look through my RB scripts and see how this is done in detail... for a simple menu item SUBMENU=UI.menu("Plugins").add_submenu("Haujiet") #Or other menu by name e.g. 'Tools' SUBMENU.add_item("Add..."){Sketchup.active_model.select_tool(Haujiet_Tool.new())} SUBMENU.add_item("Settings..."){Haujiet_Module;;settings()} for a command CMD1=UI;;Command.new("Tool_name"){Haujiet_Module;;some_module_action()} CMD1.tooltip="How_to_use_tool..." CMD1.status_bar_text="How_to_use_tool..." CMD1.small_icon=File.join(FOLDER_path, 'icon.png') CMD1.large_icon=File.join(FOLDER_path, 'icon.png') and for Toolbar TOOLBAR=UI;;Toolbar.new("Haujiet...") TOOLBAR.add_item(CMD1) TOOLBAR.restore if TOOLBAR.get_last_state.abs == 1 #TB_VISIBLE/NEVER for a context menu UI.add_context_menu_handler{|menu| sub = menu.add_submenu("Haujiet...") sub.add_item(CMD1) # perhaps with tests to see if it should show - e.g. the selection is a group? } See here... http://ruby.sketchup.com/UI/Command.html http://ruby.sketchup.com/UI/Toolbar.html

    I do learn the basics by myself, but some outside help would have been useful. I'd say that the main reason why people learn by themselves is because it's free, and they don't want to pay for lessons if there's a free alternative... Sure, it's far from being optimal, but for most, free beats optimal. Now I could be interested, but once again, according to the price (and time zone).

    I make plans for furniture construction all the time. For most parts I can get the dimensions using 2D views of the components for a scene which I then use for a viewport in LayOut. So for a leg like this... [image: nEYU_Screenshot-2_12_20198_13_25AM.png] I will have two copies of the component set up for a standard 3rd angle projection and a standard view. Here I've orbited the camera so the components show better. [image: HfI9_Screenshot-2_12_20198_10_49AM.png] The same sort of thing was done for the column for this table. [image: Iaou_Screenshot-2_12_20198_25_15AM.png] I could have created a flat profile of the column to use for dimensioning but it's easy enough to dimension the 3D component in LO so I didn't bother with the flat. The two- or three-views can also be done with a single instance of the component and multiple scenes. Depending on the part, I use either method. For details such as the edge profile of a table top, I will either make a copy of the profile before I use Follow Me or draw a rectangle that passes through the component and use Intersect Faces to pick up the shape. You can do the same thing with a table leg, too.

    Pete, this is really coming along. Now that I see what you are trying to do, it sure makes my post in you Animator thread look stupid. I do not think you could do something like this with Animator. Would like to see what your final product look like.

    I tried, but I feel this tapering more difficult for 3D printing (to have thickness & solid). Nice looking as a sketch anyway. And these tools are good. Or perhaps I did not find right procedure yet?

    @pbacot said: I quite disagree David. You apparently don't understand the point. It speeds up the process in most cases. Did you know that grouping avoids removal of edges for faces you want to keep and and makes selection simpler for editing complex shapes? It would have prevented the problem he was showing in the video. I did understand the point but I don't see how it speeds up the process he was showing. I didn't group the selection in my example and I didn't have the problem he had either. I also understand Box's point. Different strokes. I deleted my previous post.
