BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Redrawing a rectangle is no hardship... BUT if the shape is more complex when you are in the group edit select the face and use Edit>Copy. Then next when you are in another 'context' use Edit>PasteInPlace and the face is replicated in the same location in the current context. There is no need to redraw the face in the new context - just copy it...

Mistro I have worked with a Mac on SketchUp, Kerkythea, and Thea for quite some time, and all of that software works flawlessly. I do agree with chedda that you should go over to the Thea site and have a look at the specs, particularly to take advantage of Thea Presto's GPU capabilities. Here is a link to what Giannis, the developer has to say about it.http://www.thearender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=85093#p85093 Thea is fantastic software, and the development pace is exceptional.

Thanks! It helps me a lot to automate my proces. I use the plugin Comp2Layer2Scene in combination with MakeOrthoView. Every part of the assembly is a layer and a scene, named like this: partnumber-partname With the code I can make partlist in excel in a short time. Thanks again to TIG

I'd say April is probably more likely for SU2014 considering previous Basecamp unveilings. I know the Dev Camp in Portugal a few weeks ago raised issues with the API that consolidated how to bundle tools going forward. What's happening now is obeying that convention. I will predict that next year will be the year of the Plugin Rebirth. Killer tools are coming..... I just want C++ subdivision.....(if you're reading this it'd make a nice Xmas prezzie)

@wo3dan said: @krisidious said: Yeah...Trimble decided to screw everyone that uses the free version. I don’t think SketchUp/Trimble (decided to) screw any of the free users. IMO they were most generous when bringing out a new free version. (The 8 hours trial period at startup is awkward and hard to understand, but the program is still available and free) And you can still save as …. version 3. What's different about that? It's always been 8 hours and then to free version hasn't it? Or did you have to reinstall? I agree that Google bought it for Google Earth and that was the intent. And that they gave up on that years ago. But Trimble didn't buy it for SketchUp itself either. They wanted the system for a merge with their systems. I guess the main thing I'm trying to say is people that weren't going to buy, aren't going to buy. They aren't making anymore money than they would have. In fact I would argue by making it Maker Pro they're pushing people out before they would ever realize they needed pro. Now they're competeing with serious programs that are completely free. Blender is getting some of our core users here at SCF and there have been no serious upgrade to our system. I know they rewrote the whole thing on the backside, but I haven't noticed. It still acts the same way and has the same features we had before 13. Don't get me wrong, I own it and I'll continue to use it, and I have spent many a thread defending this software... When 2013 came out I was one of it's loudest supporters. I just really don't like pushing people with little or no money, who are struggling to live in a third world country, to buy something they didn't have to buy for the last decade. And let me say those third world modelers have some serious talent and drive to learn. You can thumb up or down... It won't make me think any less of you. People like me learn to live with the fact that others don't like what I have to say. in fact I got a thumb up for you...

@unknownuser said: SU2013 license will that work with SU8? The SU2013 Pro license number won't turn a SU8 into Pro. Everything else has been answered, Norbert's suggestion is probably the best you can do.

SketchUp is primarily a 3D modeller. As such when you draw a rectangle on the ground plane as in your example, the expectation is that you'll make that 3D and so it places the outside or front face down. The blue faces is expected to become the inside of the bottom of the 3D shape. There's nothing wrong with that.

Hmmm... I reviewed the stadium as it stands (according to a sketchup warehouse model that seems to be very close to the pictures I could find, the 2010 original poster's proposal, and the youtube video of the new design (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bza_mEkYALg). I do see some similarities. It especially seems that both the 2010 proposal and the new design seem to pull the end seats closer to the field, but there are significant differences, also. For instance, the 2010 proposal uses the existing building basically as is, replacing the roof over it. The new design significantly adds to the building. Also, some of the "design elements" highlighted in the original pictures are actually what the stadium looks like now, and both the 2010 proposal and the new design utilize them. [image: s01.jpg] I would be surprised if the person or persons doing the schematic design didn't see the 2010 proposal, but there is a lot of work that was done. The roof lines are very similar, but that seems to be more a matter of form following function. It looks like there has been some engineering for the new design roof, and the new design uses a different support system. [image: s02.jpg] Most strikingly the interior has a much different look: [image: s03.jpg] The pillar spacing seems to be the same, but I am not sure if that is a function of design or engineering. So, in my opinion, while some areas seem to be inspired by the 2010 proposal that was in the warehouse, the new proposal has significant differences and seems to have a lot more engineering in the roof supports. I suspect that the similarities that do exist are functional, not design, and probably would not support a legal action. Of course, the laws in Europe may differ significantly from the laws in the US, and that might make a difference.

Are you trying to export back edges? Back edges are a raster thing so there's no vector lines to export. You could switch to Wireframe, though.

Mac1 Interesting read. I too do not buy canned computers, but put the components together myself. That way I get the performance and upgrade path to my liking, not some generalized box. HP, while they make very good computers allow very little non-HP upgrades. Dell is similar. You said your ISP charges extra for WIFI. Cut that cord!!! Get a simple cheaper non-WIFI modem from them. Then buy a WIFI Router and install it between the PC and Modem. That also gives you 4 LAN connections, or 3 free for other devices. Try to get a good high power router, especially if you have a large house or multi story house. Set it up on WPA and register every WIFI device (friends and relatives too) that will connect to it. You just need to define the devices MAC address to the router, and the password to the device. That way they automatically log in when booted or come in range. Nobody else can get in, even if they know the password. ISP WIFI Modems usually just need a password, their password, and the modem ID. I have a Cisco router. You can access the Administrator page from any registered device, or the PC with just its static IP Addr, Admin name and password. It also has a Guest access for ad-hoc access with a separate Password.

Thank you Derek, but I am running a Windows 7 Asus tablet. The hard drive is ~32GB. Windows is taking up the majority of that, hence why I am looking to convert to Linux. But I do not want to loose the capability to view/show SU models on the tablet.
