I been using a PC for over a decade. It's not that I do not like macs....I just never focused on saving up to get one. I like the non proprietary swapping of parts on a PC. I also had the feeling that many of my favorite software have inferior mac support. I often see mac users having to wait for support or some software simply not for macs at all. I am used to the windows platform and dealing with multicore systems. On my own home system I am saving to get a good graphics card with good CUDA support. I don't know how this kind of info translates when it comes to using a mac. How does a Mac handle rendering compared to a PC? Can I work on a Mac and bring the files over to a PC for rendering and is it complicated? (don't want them to buy another Mac just for rendering)

I am about to work in an animation studio where I will be working on a mac. I will be the only one in there working with Sketchup and Kerkythea and possibly Thea Render. I need to confirm with the staff that what I need to work with will be fine with the mac or else I will have to tell them to get a PC in there. The manager said it will be running parallel software. can anyone explain to me what this means and if I can get the same satisfaction that I have on my PC for all my Sketchup and rendering needs? I'm also concerned about plugins and do they all work on mac systems?

Paralell is a software enabling you to run windows in a virtual machine within osx. I'm not sure it's a good idea for sketch up though as it will perform better natively through bootcamp (a windows partition) or natively on osx. I use the mac version of sketchup without any problems but then i always have. I suggest you use the mac version you might be surprised it's not that different from what i've seen. I also render on my mac pro using maxwell. However if you are using Thea and gpu support i suggest you do some research on supported cards under osx. You'll get the best info on the Thea forum i guess. I see no problems using the osx system for you.

I have worked with a Mac on SketchUp, Kerkythea, and Thea for quite some time, and all of that software works flawlessly.
I do agree with chedda that you should go over to the Thea site and have a look at the specs, particularly to take advantage of Thea Presto's GPU capabilities. Here is a link to what Giannis, the developer has to say about it.http://www.thearender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=85093#p85093
Thea is fantastic software, and the development pace is exceptional.
