Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Best methods for doing so? Thanks ! Make a grouped punching shape for the door as a box that extends through the wall, move it into place. Perfect, many thanks, worked great.

Ruby in layout has been suggested, but so far no one has really given any good ideas of what ruby should be able to accomplish. I think this is a great example of something ruby would be useful for in LO. Chris

What you say Chris makes perfect sense. The seller would have to be selling lock stock and barrel

guys, i think i am having a similar problem. a big site where i located 3 buildings which i modeled separately in their own files. however, when they were brought into the big file i had to place them in new positions relative to their previous origins. then i took them back to the original files and pasted them in the same place as they are in the big file (so that moving them back and forth is easier). problems: in the original files the first origin is never forgotten when i want to have a facade view. in the big file my renderer (podium) does not "see" the buildings. any ideas? EDIT: apparently the problem went away after i closed sketchup and opened it again.

(We have to do special processing on characters to get SketchUp to store them properly as attributes on components. Can you send a reply with some cyrillic characters in it, so I can paste them in and get them to work properly. Thanks, Al Няма проблем - това е български език. Captain, Here's a try at it using Jeans method. I drew a quick "From Scratch" mesh and then used "Sculpt Tools" with lag line turned on and just drug across the mesh a couple times to get this result. Then I used the radial bend to grab from the middle of the bullnoses buldge to the edge of the radius and bent it down ninety degrees. Did the same for the other side. In the second pic, I just used follow me to sweep a rectangle around a curve with pretty many segments, welded the inner lines to use as rails, then used TIG's EEbyRails to sweep the bullnose profile. That gave me enough subdivisions to run up and down the bullnosed edge with sculpt tools to mess it up a little. This method saved from having the polys where they aren't needed and will give more accuracy when doing rockfaced bullnose around radii. The way to get nice movies out of SU is to export .pngs instead of .mov. And set the resolution up by 2x the final desired size. then use Quicktime Pro to assemble all the images into a .mov and set hte size how you want it, and export (and yes I do have to ignore my conscience every time I use QT pro ). That will make a high quality movie. chris

version 7 won't overide your version 6, so there is no need to do everything explained here. It gets installed into its own directory, and keeps itself separate from 6. It might not import your keyboard shortcuts from 6 correctly though, if I recall correctly. Which is annoying.

@driven said: IDX Free on Mac I only see the shadows on 3 pains in SU not much but hope it helps john Interesting. I guess IDX handles the transparency/color much the same as SketchUp. SketchUp does "all or nothing" on transparent shadows. Off above a certain threshold of transparency and on below it.

can be interesting but now seems I miss something with the Jim's LEGO importer! Nothing append when I make Menu Plugins/LDraw Import/Import file I have made a folder c:\ldraw and put a .dat file inside but... So I test my model with the 3DS exporter from Leocad : no problem (it's Bryce's Shoes at the top image [image: ptR2_moto.png]

Well, I tend not to use too many materials - and often I just use colours (which are obviously not as slow) as for some materials in a final render (in 3rd party software) you do not necessarily need image materials or you can swap them easily if UV mapping is not an issue. But again - I can imagine serious differences between PC's and Mac's and even within these categories, between individual machines.

I also have another script called loose geometrry to groups that you mighr find useful. I wrote it specifically for what you are doing. It finds a face, then takes all touching edges and faces and turns that intoa group, then it moves on to the nect face that has not been added to a group and repeats the process. It is handy for quickly making groups of zillions of entire extruded buildings. I wrote it for the same process you are describing, something I was soing a LOT of at the time at work. I also have a snippet of code that I developed that takes a selection of faces and extrudes them by a given height, and a given amount of extrusions. It is used for selecting a bunch of flat building footprints then specifying how many storeys the building will have and how tall each storey is. And I even built in the ability to have the first floor be different than the other floors, since that is a common practice in planning to have a tall bottom floor with shorter upper floors. Let me know if that would be a useful script in your workflow and I'll clean it up and post it on Monday. Chris
