YOu indeed have a wide variety of styles, like that! Kerky is a good renderprogram to start with. Kind of a steap learning curve, but there are some good tutorials out there (Material by Patrick mainly) wich explains it well and understandable! When you get familiair to Kerky, Thea Render would be the next best thing. But I only know these to, so I'm biased Keep up the creative work!

@trogluddite said: Fascinating - I thought I might watch a couple of minutes, "for a laugh", and ended up watching the whole thing right through. It shows well the coolest thing about Sketchup - 'brainstorming' the idea you can see in your head, and seeing how it can be turned into geometry that can become something practical (or not, and try another way!). Very neat design too - a real 21st century treehouse. And I guess from the part at the end, kind of 'folding' and modular, so quick and easy to move trees. I will sure buy one if you ever get them manufactured! wow, thanks. can't believe you watched the whole thing yeah, this was more of a brainstorming session. we have to hand in the designs in half a semester, so i guess a lot will change / evolve until then. it would be so cool if everyone here would record their work and publish a timelapse alongside the final renderings just imagine seing that for the stuff posted in the "best of sketchup" thread, for example

Excellent render and in this case, I like the extreme camera angle of the last image. sigh I HAVE to get Artisan one of these days.

@peterboodts said: You're absolutely right, but it was a quick test Also I don't know how to change the direction of the textures in sketchup. (help) The Maxwell plugin gives you access to thousands of super textures but they only can be used a provided.(for the moment?) You need the full Maxwell to edit them (bump etc..) Edit the group. Select the surface with the texture. Right click and in the pop up menu, select Textures, then Position. Odd looking XYZ handles will pop up and you can then rotate the texture. You can also skew and size with this tool as well. [image: 71KP_rotatetex.JPG]

I agree, vertex tools is the new way of modelling in sketchup and it's very beneficial, with time I found i can model faster now using it and more effectively may I add

Ditto to the comments made above + perhaps work on the paving material too and model the paving joints and junction to the grass area

Sometimes a solution is obvious to me and I just jump in, do it, and then document with photography. Less obvious problem/solutions are solved by modeling which then become renders. Even though I render, I really think of my sketchUp/render work as prototyping and testing. The computer has streamlined work flow. For me sketching, working drawings, documentation and presentation art are no longer separate projects. The line between these process becomes more and more blurred as technology begins to bridge the gaps and integrate the disparate elements into one continuum. I would like to model the fiber optic lights although I have not figured how to go about it yet. I use twilight render and don't know what chices I have for propagating or bundling the fibers efficiently.
