Yeah, you guys are right, about half file size goes to vegetation ( That big tree is 2.5 Mb ), and I am hiding it for every different view along with all unnecessary geometry, i even render from 2 different models with same scenes because together they would be huge. Ill try look into vray proxies, anything that can ease handling of models is a great help .

How does it do that? http://www.wired.com/design/2012/11/3d-printer-wood-filament/ I'll be darned. Can you imagine where this technology is going to be in the near future? Actually that's the reason I've decided to hold off on getting one, I want to let it "cook" for a while (and like any new play-purty the prices will undoubtedly come down as it gets perfected. Jeez, I hate waiting. Instant gratification, that's my thing Well I felt the same and this wasnt the printer I wanted but for $700 (including an attachment to print in wood, wax, ABS plastic and more for an extra $99, international shipping and insurance) it was a steal. I will play with this for a year or so and make enough money to pay for it and then eventually buy another one in a year or so. Shame I have to wait for so long but I have my laser scanner to play with until then. I just got a new camera form Amazon and projector (borrowed from a colleague) to make the David Laser Scanner even more awesome! Going to scan in my head, print it in wax and make a 'head candle' . Perhaps we can turn your chevy into a candle also! The most complicated candle ever made! First things first have to scan in this RC aircraft and have all the parts ready for printing. Starting with something smaller to get me going [image: CHNu_scan.jpeg]

Seeing everyone is comments is really encouraging so thank you all. iichiversii is right and if you have not seen 'Indie Game the Movie' I hope you take the time and go to watch it. I know people don't like it when others try to sell them things without them asking for it but I am just recommending ... If you want there is a bundle sell of 6 games & documentary were you set the prize you want to buy it with controls over what money goes to developers, charity that helps children in need to have games this Christmas to play with and more. Here is the link; http://www.humblebundle.com/#popup-indiegamethemovie Also Steam is giving great deal for the movie and games as well; http://store.steampowered.com/ Again thanks for the comments!

Hello Doz, Sorry for not answering before but I have been very busy those last days. You are right, SimFonIA looks difficult. But it just looks, because in fact it is very easy )). We are preparing a quick start guide that explain how to make a rotation and a translation. If we carefully look at your Tank, there is only two rotation and a translation to fully animate it (with the exception of tracks that are more complex). Can you send me the model? I'll make a video to explain the process Cheers, Julien from SimFonIA_team

I’ve been working on the hull plating of the ship, here are three new pics (from above, below, and a close up so you can see what I’m doing here) to show what progress was made. I still need to take care of the hull plating on the sides of the hull, and the sidepods, that'll be next. Thank God for Fredo6 tools, here I used two of his tools: The Offset from Tools on surface http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11212 and his Joint Push Pull http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6708. Thanks ely. I actually got some thickness via vector pp. The problem is when I attempt to round the outer edges because of the sharp angle where the curve meets crease. I'm getting close. On my last attempt I got a hole in the geometry. [image: zsJ9_Angular-Problem10.jpg] I tried last night to upload the file to share but it was too large (about 5 mb)How can I share a file larger than 4 mb here? I never did it before.

YOu indeed have a wide variety of styles, like that! Kerky is a good renderprogram to start with. Kind of a steap learning curve, but there are some good tutorials out there (Material by Patrick mainly) wich explains it well and understandable! When you get familiair to Kerky, Thea Render would be the next best thing. But I only know these to, so I'm biased Keep up the creative work!

@trogluddite said: Fascinating - I thought I might watch a couple of minutes, "for a laugh", and ended up watching the whole thing right through. It shows well the coolest thing about Sketchup - 'brainstorming' the idea you can see in your head, and seeing how it can be turned into geometry that can become something practical (or not, and try another way!). Very neat design too - a real 21st century treehouse. And I guess from the part at the end, kind of 'folding' and modular, so quick and easy to move trees. I will sure buy one if you ever get them manufactured! wow, thanks. can't believe you watched the whole thing yeah, this was more of a brainstorming session. we have to hand in the designs in half a semester, so i guess a lot will change / evolve until then. it would be so cool if everyone here would record their work and publish a timelapse alongside the final renderings just imagine seing that for the stuff posted in the "best of sketchup" thread, for example

@peterboodts said: You're absolutely right, but it was a quick test Also I don't know how to change the direction of the textures in sketchup. (help) The Maxwell plugin gives you access to thousands of super textures but they only can be used a provided.(for the moment?) You need the full Maxwell to edit them (bump etc..) Edit the group. Select the surface with the texture. Right click and in the pop up menu, select Textures, then Position. Odd looking XYZ handles will pop up and you can then rotate the texture. You can also skew and size with this tool as well. [image: 71KP_rotatetex.JPG]
