Hi Thomthom, I am trying to design thermoformable objects which can be stacked, destacked, nested and denested easily. Stacking and nesting is no problem for two same objects, but destacking and denesting can become problematic if the surfaces are too close to each other. To check this, I simulate the nesting of 2 objects in X-ray mode. I can then see the distance between the surfaces. For days now I have been inspecting and testing every "drop" group/components plugin I could find, but to no avail. Invariably all "drop" group/components plugins either drop part of the object through the surface or change it's orientation. I was getting very frustrated until this afternoon, when I found your Raytracer plugin. Using the "Drop Components by Geometry" I get a number of rays going straight down to the surface. With the camera on Parallel Projection and in X-ray mode, and by clicking on front, back and side views, I can now try and find the shortest ray, as that is where both objects will first touch. Then I can move the object down along that ray. Works like a whistle. But with complex objects there are so many rays it is not easy to find the shortest one. When I click on a ray, the entity info only mentions "guide", but not the length of the ray. Is there a way you could highlight the shortest ray, so I can quicky delete all others? Would save me heaps of time. Greetings Frank nestable pots test.skp

@davecoopstl said: Thanks, TIG. Rick hasn't responded to any of my emails, yet. Does your Image Trimmer do the same thing? Dave. Yes, very much - but you must read up about enabling Java and associating .jar files etc... With that all set up you can then trim Images made from PNG files which have a transparent background... But please continue any discussions about my tool in its own thread...

so what is the vertical rotation option for? Mitch made a plugin that just about does it. I just need to figure out the process a bit better.

I hadn't even dreamed of getting a fresh plugin and that it would work on comps. I was just hoping someone knew of a plugin that would extrude it. You da man Mitch! I'll give it a try in just a minute.

The code is probably not up to par for an official release to the EW. I wrote a lot of code years ago while I was out of work and had a lot of time. That was about 5 years ago. Since then, I have not had the time or energy to maintain the plugins and earn a living at the same time. The code on Github is currently the best version to download.

@patrickbellens said: Hey all, Im not sure how to search for this, cant seem to find any proper result. So im searching for a plugin, or code snippets, so i can code it myself. If i select a component and i want to move it, it would be easy if there is a function that i can enable so that it wont snap anymore in the direction of the axis of the drawing but rather to the axis of the component im moving. someone, any useful information? FredoTools::MoveAlong has the capability. Strangely, I implemented it only for Component Instances, but I'll make it applicable for Groups in a next release.
