There are already several Rubies out there that make grids of clines at XY (and Z) spacings - grid.rb, 3d_grid.rb, numbered_grid.rb etc. There's also a parametric 2D version you can adjust later on - think that's on SUp site ? Search in Didier's Ruby Library Depot site...

Dear Didier, As we say on this side of the Channel, "no rest for the wicked". What have you been up to, and was it in this life or the last one? Thanks for adding my request to your to-do list. Regards, Bob

@jclements said: ......If there are a series of contiguous segments which are equal in length and their common angles are equal, then it has all the characteristics of an arc or a circle (sum of common angles = 360°). You would think there would be a way to "regenerate" SU's arc or circle. JClements, In case of retrieving the arcs information: What you need is the centre of the ‘arc to be’ which is easy to reconstruct. (intersection of two lines perpendicular to two segments (not to close)) Also an even number of segments in the ‘arc to be’. When you are one segment short you’ll need to rotate/copy one accurately as an extension to get the even number. Input that number as xs (= number of sides) when you now apply the arc tool on the ‘arc to be’. The result is an arc nicely replacing all the separate segments.

Sorry I can't be the bearer of good news, but to the best of my knowledge there are no poly reducing scripts in SketchUp. The only way to do it is by hand, with your finger on the Alt button, pulling vertices together. As for the crunching guru and reduced vehicles on FormFonts...sorry again, but there's no such person and no such models. All the cars on FF are low poly because Gabriel builds them that way...like everything else...from scratch in SU.

I can see definite advantages to this over the Follow-Me tool, which can be somewhat difficult for a newbie to learn. This would be a great ruby for woodworkers and machinists when turning shapes like your examples. I know I have some difficulty even now getting the F-M tool to do what I want it to do every time. I like rubies that make life more simple and somewhat automated. I say "Go for it".... Mike

RickW Not sure how I missed your note. That would be nice. As I said I have modified Didier’s and TIG "All Plugings Help Files ..." script to open up the Wordpad program, however, I can’t get it to open the Wordpad program and the selected TXT message. Side note, can't seem to find any Ruby help in opening other programs. I am using Wordpad because it has more formatting capabilities than Notepad. I have put in the Help menu a choice, “Project Notes”. When selected this checks the directory Notes, (which I have made) for TXT files, just like the “All Plugins Help Files...” script checks for Help files. Anyway, I would appreciate your help. Note, if this project information is stored in the model, would it move from model to model as I rename the various version I save to keep track of the work in progress? Also, would want to be able to print the Project Notes, so I could pass them along to others. Also, these notes could get large, as I get a lot of email advice and comments that I would like copy into the file and keep track of. Well, again thanks for the offer. Hope to be able to return the favor. Ken

@unknownuser said: I ask myself... "why?". Please sketch a scenario where this script would be of use, so I may better understand what this script does, your site describes even less than here. Many thanks. It was intended to be a fun script for distraction: Click the button, a full screen window will open and show one of the images from the img directory, i.e. the "getStringFromObj()" image. But in the German subforum I got the idea to go on developing it with the intent to have fast acces to model relevant images (ground plans and so on). azuby

@gata said: Nudge was the first script that used the arrow keys to nudge all sorts of stuff http://www.smustard.com/script/Nudge. The Move Wizard in RpTools/Space Design also moves everything http://forums.renderplus.com/wiki/index.php?title=RpTools#Move_Wizard but works in PCs only. I'm planning on trying a new move-like Tool that is keyboard only. I don't care for the dialog myself. I think with a well written instructions, intuitive functions, and using only keyboard with modifiers; a new mover could be a efficient tool. I think I'll go try Jan's jsMoveTool now...

Hi Rick, Thanks for your feedback and other help. I agree, the menu would be neater within a submenu especially when using many different plugins. We've just released an updated beta version of Demeter that does this. The overall folder structure has been improved and the plugin should now be compatible with your Organizer plugin. It is also now compatible with the Mac OS X version of Sketchup and has had various other improvements. The new version can be downloaded at:http://greenspaceresearch.com/demeter.html Thanks, Malcolm Murray

Well done Didier. A relatively painless way to give any cutting component some attributes so that it will punch a hole of the desired shape through a twin skinned wall - but only if you want it to... I see that you have ### disabled the observers (CuttingWindowWatch) till you get your head around them. They will need to be convoluted. To get the observers to work you'll need to attach themselves to each of the component instances as they cut the hole, AND also auto-load them in later sessions at startup to get them to continue to 'report' on those components as they change... Note how you need to add an observer to each instance [NOT the component's definition] for them to be useful later... You also need to add similar observers to all of the faces forming the reveal of the hole that the instance cuts. The hole's faces AND the matching instance all need to have a unique random-number attribute ID to tie them together - set at the moment the hole is cut. Later on, if an observer spots that the instance is moving it reads the transformation (you might need to remember the 'at rest' transformation when these attribs are first set and save that as an attribute too ?) The initial 'at rest' attrib can be read and updated to suit. A dialog could then ask if you want to keep this window and its hole linked together. If 'No' then their linking attributes and observers can be deleted: if 'Yes' then the associated faces with the same ID move by the same amount. Also these faces' transformations are also storable and can be updated to suit. This way you can choose to keep them linked and move together. You would also need an observer to spot them being copied so that the linking attribute IDs are either eased from the copies OR replaced with new unique IDs. If any one of the linked faces or the window instance are deleted then all of the remaining observers and attributes also need clearing from what's remaining - perhaps with a warning messing ? Scaling of the window should alos be reflected in rescaled reveal faces when the link is kept ? If a face of the hole moves then the other faces and the associated window should move with it IF they are to be kept linked... This linking by attributes and observers is like a weak grouping that lets you change some things that affect others as you work...
