I have a strange behavior of displacement map in vray 3.6.
I cant make it to work. The material preview shows a good displacement but it doesnt appear in the render.Tried and tried but cant make it work.

Even I tried models done in vray 2.0 which worked but wont work in 3.6.

just found the solution, u gotta apply the material from within the vray material list... u know select your geometry, go to vray asset editor material list select your material, right click apply to selection and BUMP! i mean displacement eheh

Use fur for carpets man! - displacement is not worth it. Fur is 1000X faster and better for this application. I try to stay away from displacement altogether honestly.

If you must - like you said above, the material needs to applied directly to the faces (not to the group).

Displacement on the left, fur on the right
