Dave, That's a cool model. the animation of the scenes is fun. Anyway, I seem to be missing something. Was there supposed to be a scene showing just a window with section cut? edit. I thought to look at the rest of the model, not just the scenes. Still I see no section cuts. OK maybe you are not doing that anymore. Concerning dimensions, they do not seem to have their own layer. Put the dimensions on a layer to be on or off (visible) in specific scenes. @unknownuser said: don't get the viewport setup comment. The way I am trying to set the layout is by reducing the drawing layers down to just the window, centering the drawing, editing to a point where I can take a section, take a section slice, revolve it and then send to layout. You didn't mentions one step. You need to SAVE a Scene for use in LO. Save the view you set up as a "Scene", save the file and "Send to LayOut". Peter

It's just the first page that crashes my Mac every time, except on "medium". Also crashes on "Print". Other pages seem fine at any quality. Maybe it's the image itself that could be brought into LO in a different format (I assume it is a graphic output of a renderer).

I don't think you can do that. You have to hit all of the views on each page and set them all to the desired render mode. It does seem like an interesting feature, though.

@cebolla said: Thanks, Sonder. You make an excellent point about liability. This is a deck for my parents' house so I wasn't in that mindset, but I should be- anything could happen in the next 10 years... At some point, however, there must be times when you have to block information from others at a certain scale- do you import it all into SU and bring it in that way? By the way, this is Lindy from Kings Beach- you can run but you can't hide! Haha - too funny. The only time that I bring information in is for the topogrpahic survey. That I bring in SU and view it through Layout. I do export ACAD info all the time for structural engineers, but have never had the need to do the reverse. My workload will be better next week. Glad you are on here. This is a great site for learning!

@arcad-uk said: You might find it quicker and easier to create a reference point in the Sketchup model? I find it quite difficult in layout to lock onto undefined points. Are you moving the basic center snap on any object in LO? It really is a wonderful ability to set the insertion point of any object anywhere you like. Once I got the hang of this, moving and inserting objects and references in LO is really intuitive, easy and extremely accurate, even when zoomed out.

Welcome Dylan! You will love this site. Gai is spot on with a great visual. I'll reinforce the key to Layout happiness is managing your scenes in SU. Always update your Layout file with the actual scene from sketchup. If you render it as "modified (sketchup view name)", then you will not get the true updated scene you saved in Sketchup. Happy modeling!

All solved, thank you for your help. I'd coloured the background wrong in sketchup.

@agrazdi said: When i export to DWG in layout - i think i understand everything in the export window, but when i open it in autocad i am completly lost. Are there tutorials or tips in this dwg export issue in especific. Thanks in advance What Gai said - if you export in raster, it exports a raster image. In ACAD make sure you check both paper and model space. If you exported to paper space (selection in Layout), then open ACAD in default model space, you will see nothing.

Looks like we need a Sonder method thread. On my iPad... When I get to my computer will add a link. He uses two LO references superimposed AFAIK. Edit: See below. I guess that actually IS the Sonder Method thread.

Thanks! It is not complicated at all. My layer setup is very simple: The Section line work reference goes on a layer I name RCP linework (modify for type of drawing) SU reference goes on a layer named SU Reference The grids are on a layer called grids The notation is all on one layer called notation. You can add more as needed, but isolating these individual layers is what you see on the RCP above. You then position the layers in order of visibilty and lock as needed. I typically keep all reference layers locked and only unlock to update. As for model scenes, they are just each section or plan view saved as a separate scene. For plans that require many sections, I will typically create a separate SU file and reference in the base model. This way you don't end up with 15 section planes in a given model. So far so good on this method. Rendering time is pretty much instant for both the raster and vector linework. I have used this method now for all my plans, reflected ceiling plans and building sections. It works great!
