Hi

I would like to use layout to make workshop drawings including plans and section cuts for components in my designs.For example I would like to be able to transfer a 3d picture of a window to layout and also a plan and section of the window and also show where the section cuts are in the layout. When I try to do this by selecting the window component in my sketchup model and transfer to layout option the whole sketchupmodel transfers instead of just the windoe.
Any suggestions of where I could learn how to do this?

You need to create a scene or rather scenes in SketchUp of just the window using the views you need. Then use those scenes as viewports in LayOut.

Ok I have the scene I want of a particular window which is grouped within a complete house design. When I try to work within the scene and take a section cut of the window, the section expands to cover the whole house? Which means when I transfer it to layout the section marks are huge so the window ends up tiny in layout.

Edit the window component and place the section plane inside. It will only cut whatever is in the component's editing context.

If you still struggle with displaying your window because of the surrounding uf.. you can always export it to a separate file (right click > Save as...) and then insert only that file into LO (multiple skp files can be inserted into the same LO file).

Or simply drag a new instance of your window component to somewhere empty space aside from the building from the component browser, make an appropriate scene here and update the skp file in your LO file.

It would really be a lot easier to help you if you posted your SKP file. There are so many questions that come to mind. Have you utilized layers in your SketchUp model? How are you setting up your scenes? Did you zoom in on the window? Are you setting the size of the viewport in LO to show only the area you need?

Here is a copy of my sketchup file. I have used layers and set up some scenes. Another problem I have just discovered is that if I set a scene up with dimensions on it they suddenly dissapear from all the scenes I have made if I remove them from the main drawing to make a scene with no dimensions?
I don't get the viewport setup comment. The way I am trying to set the layout is by reducing the drawing layers down to just the window, centering the drawing, editing to a point where I can take a section, take a section slice, revolve it and then send to layout. Where I can create a workshop drawing to be printed off. With all relevant dimensions etc.

I hope you can follow this and I'm sure there is a very simple system to do this. Hope you can help/.

That's a cool model. the animation of the scenes is fun. Anyway, I seem to be missing something. Was there supposed to be a scene showing just a window with section cut?

edit. I thought to look at the rest of the model, not just the scenes. Still I see no section cuts. OK maybe you are not doing that anymore.

Concerning dimensions, they do not seem to have their own layer. Put the dimensions on a layer to be on or off (visible) in specific scenes.

You didn't mentions one step. You need to SAVE a Scene for use in LO. Save the view you set up as a "Scene", save the file and "Send to LayOut".
