+1 on the Perpetual License option, the subscription licensing kept me from evening trying LightUp, I hope other developers whose software is subscription based follow your lead and give us a choice. Mike

Although this post might be a bit old (and already resolved), I would like to add my two cents when it comes to animating vehicle sliding doors: Before importing an LRV sketchup model into V3DM, assign each inside face of the door a different material. The outside face can remain their true colours. For some reason in V3DM, all faces with the same inside and outside faces of an imported sketchup model can only be selected simultaneously, not individually. After importing to V3DM, group the faces that belong to each door. Now you can define these groups as doors in V3DM. Vissim will automatically determine the sliding direction for each door.

Hey guys, Had the same problem a while ago. Instead of waiting or downloading a beta version I emailed sketchup and told them my situation. They were able to send me a temporary pro license activation code for SU2014 so that I could use my Maxwell Render plugin for another while. Taking in to consideration that plugin for SU2015 is not fully complete I might ask them for this favour again. It is definitely worth a try. Good luck!

@tig said: Make sure the 3d text is inside a group or component. You can edit the contents. Set View > Component Edit > Hide rest of model That way you can Orbit and see the back too. Use the RoundCorner tool as desired. Note that SketchUp has issues with tiny edges and facets. Depending on the size of the 3d text it might produce issues of missing out tiny facets. You can scale up the container - say x10 - and provided you think about the rounding dims to match it will avoid the issue. Scale down the container when you are done. To get the base rounded I need to explode the text. There may be other ways but that's what worked. Then delete the section of plane that is covered by the letter. Otherwise I can't select the edge - it complains it is 3 planes rather than 2. Once that is deleted it seems to work as desired although I get some weird facets on the corners of the letters. I will try it at larger scale and see if that helps. I need fairly large radius relative to the size of the letters so I wonder it that will help...

@jjent said: Hi - I'm a new Maxwell user, using the free version for the free Sketchup 8 platform. I'm teaching myself how to use the program via Youtube videos, google, forums, etc and have a few questions that I can't seem to find the answers to using the above methods. I have a pretty detailed SU model (15 MB) and want to create some interior and exterior renderings. First, can I even achieve this with such a big file and the free Maxwell version with the draft engine/dpi limit? If all of the materials are simply a generic grey or "clay" and I use sun/emitters, will it even be possible to get a decent image? Likewise, I was reading elsewhere that trying to do an interior scene with emitters AND turning the sun on is too much for the draft engine and you won't get good results (noise, bad quality, super long render time). True? Great answers have already been provided for 3 & 4. So I'll try to help you with 1 & 2! Maxwell Fire does not provide high resolution renders but it is possible to get a decent, noise-free render if you use only clay finishes. It will also render fine using physical environment. Using emitters full stop in Maxwell Fire will produce A LOT of noise. This engine is quite sub-standard when it comes to the quality of output - I would strongly recommend upgrading to the SU plugin. @rodney1717 said: The first r.b file the beamdesign.rb, it draws a section and gives you options on certain design parameters of a beam. It creates a menu under the plugins tab. This sort of works, I would use actual values for the defaults instead of the letters in case the user fails to enter all values and add a "if results" statement following the inputbox statement incase the user clicks Cancel. The second r.b file drawbox.rb I want the user to draw a line/path then the program will execute addface and followme methods to draw a beam on the path. However when I run the drawbox,rb I dont get the beam with the defined length of some reason. Can anyone please help with the Inputpoint.view method in conjuction with a follow.me method. This plugin is not working. this plugin had several coding errors which caused it to fail. I have made the necessary corrections plus others that made more sense to me. drawbox2.rb

Don't ask me where or when, but I recently read that it seems that Google Earth will be discontinued (fairly soon) and they are moving focus to Google Maps. Making GE Pro free seems to lend legitimacy to that. But hey, I already installed GE Pro, hopping to get the most out of it until further notice.

Kim Frederik, That's a worthy comment to read and something to think about. Perhaps, if I can obtain a Thea for Max version, I will do exactly that for the future. I'm not in the position to invest more... but, that sounds great. Thank you. I know there is still a solution for this somehow... but, this sounds like a great band-aide. Peter, thanks for the intervention. Much appreciated.

Do NOT simple copy the Plugins folder contents. There were many updates to Plugins over the last year or more to suit Ruby2 - used since v2014. You should install all available versions of your Plugins from the PluginStore... The SketchUcation PluginStore dialog lets you Auto-Install - you can copy a v2015 Plugins folder safely to another v2015 installation... A very few Plugins have not been updated to suit Ruby2, so they are unlikely to work in v2015. You can but test those that are not available in the SCF PluginStore, EWHouse etc and ask... If in doubt contact the Plugin's author directly... Most of the mainstream authors have updated their scripts over the last year or so... So those should be OK. Also, e.g. with his permission I have recently updated many of Didier Bur's scripts to suit all available SUp versions... So those are definitely the ones to get... Browse the PluginStore to see the updates........ EDIT: In the example error-code you provide the error is quite clearly explained... @dlg.add_action_callback("init"){|**@dlg**, param|...... To fix it rename it ' dlg', if it's used anywhere inside the {} [which is unlikely] then change those references to match... I suspect that most of the other errors will be fixed by getting the proper [latest] versions of the scripts...
