@solo said: My first question is why are you modeling in Sketchup if you plan to rig in Blender, has Blender not got better suited tools for such organic modeling? Organic modeling with Sketchup is possible but will require practice and a few plugins, maybe a couple commercial ones. Look at some Artisan (plugin) tutorials for an idea of proxy to subdivision and sculpting options. Solo, thanks for your reply. I have to be honest here, I have actually no experience with Blender too! Just saw on forums one can do rigging with Blender, Max, etc. I have both. I am just now looking at youtube videos on rigging as well in all the programs I have, and on how to use Artisan in Sketchup. Both Blender and Max is not easy for a beginner. I was once trying a building in Blender but stopped it. When I tried the building and finished it up easily in Sketchup I thought everything else will be better too. I do this only for myself for fun. But at times I get confused with the multitude of tools and options. I have also downloaded now Artisan manual. Actually I have used Hexagon 2.5 more with help in the Daz3D forums but not on character creations, just how to cut a pre-made clothing mesh.

@alan fraser said: The major difference between the Pro and free versions is that you can't import/export to CAD files as easily. Also, the free version will not enable you to make Dynamic Components...just use them. There are also one or two extensions (like Solid Tools) that aren't available in the free version. add to that the licence restrictions of Make version, no commercial use...

I believe that recommendation refers to Intel integrated graphics. I honestly would suggest a dedicated Nvidia card, I would discourage AMD due to historical issues with SU. Are you only using the machine for Sketchup? as SU utilizes only one core, so clock speed is important. If you are also planning to render then there are more factors to consider.

This sounds typical of a graphics card issue. What kind of GPU does your computer have? You might try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Preferences>OpenGL. Has this just started recently?

Dave R, Sadly the link you sent are for Sketchup Pro users, I am using the free version Sketchup Make 2016. With the obj plugin for Make 2016 it does not give us the "OBJ Export Options" like the pro version gives you. It just gives the option to save with converted textures into PNG files or not. I tried reversing the faces so they are the correct way, and it does nothing to the exported OBJ file. Still adds why too many edges. Any other ideas?

Thanks for the response... I've searched for export STEP (STP), PARASOLID, and IGES with no results... found import plug-ins/extensions but nothing to export... or convert... must be in all the wrong places

Make groups or components of these parts... Then select them and use the right-click > context-menu to 'Lock' them in place...

EPRT is viewable using a free-viewer. It is also openable in SolidWorks. But unless the original author explicitly made it to be convertible - say to STL - then it's not convertible - rather like a PDF... It's very purpose is to protect IPR by being limited it its capabilities...

All the ads are related to SketchUp and support the continued operation of the site. @unknownuser said: Will this site reimburse me for the costs of fixing my laptop if a 3rd party ad has malware and zaps me? No. The ads here lead to reputable and responsible companies that sell software related to SketchUp. I see no relationship between the ads and your laptop getting zapped. If in doubt get a good anti-virus and malware checker.

@garystan said: Hi everybody : Currently I'm using Sketchup 8, and it's still functioning well. I do have a question about PlugIns. Is there a way to (temporarily) disable any PlugIns that I'm not using (at the current time) ? I downloaded a few PlugIns, and I think the plugins that I'm not currently using might be taking up memory space, causing Sketchup to function at a slower pace. Thanks in Advance--------garystan Start by looking at Window>Preferences>Extensions. Uncheck any you are not using. Otherwise you will have to access the plugins folder,C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins, and move unused plugins to a sub folder. You can always move them back if needed. You will Administrator access for this.

I did contact Mootools Techsupport and they responded: "No there is no way to export using V8 version. This is an idea to add to an upcoming version" But I can work with my convoluted path for now to get these results. It's been a hit and miss search for quite a while so this is progress-for sure! Hi Deborah. I use TurboCad Pro 2015 and it helps if you move everything to layer 0 in TC before saving as DWG for SketchUp import. I tried it on your file and it works better than if you don't. I noticed it has not imported walls but not sure what else. When SketchUp opens the file it show a statistical report on items not imported before you can open it, if this is any help. I've attached some screenshots of my attempts to import from TC to SU. One with all layers as is, and one where I moved most to Layer 0. Some layers caused havoc when I tried to move them (Appliances) and crashed TC so not sure what is going on there. I suspect importing the walls might have something to do with x-refs but can't be sure. If you go onto TC forum (http://forums.turbocad.com/) you will find heaps of info on exporting files, bit too much for my liking. Hope this was of some help. Let me know if you have success. It would be nice to be able to share drawings between apps but like all things these days, it ain't simple. Good luck. [image: p0kc_TC_DWG_ImportResultsSS.jpg]

It should be relatively easy (with move tool or push pull) to adjust the lengths and relative offset of the pipes after. Changing the pipe diameter, after you've done follow-me, and changing the radiused sections would be harder. Save a copy of your layout lines for follow-me, so in the future you can run follow-me again with different pipe radii if necessary.

You're quite welcome. You might also take a good hard look at shiny metal objects around you. Look at how reflections off their surface work. Let that inform they way you create the objects you place around the model for reflections and shadows.
