You can also use the Outliner dialogue to easily arrange the definitions and nested components/groups in your model. True that you need to keep everything well organised for that.

Thanks for the explanation. That's very good to know. I almost hurt my brain on that one. I think my spirits broken. haha

I find the "flip.." command a bit confusing. I prefer to use the "Scale by -1" method to mirror a part. To use this method, select the wall stud -- the stud must be a component -- then click the Scale tool (or "S" on the keyboard). This will make a bunch of scaling points to appear on the corners and midpoints of the 2x4. Move the cursor to the center point on the vertical midpoint of the stud. Be sure that you move it over the one that is in the center of the narrow edge of the board -- not one of the edges. It will turn red and the dot will be reflected on the other side of the 2x4 with another red dot connected by a dotted line. (I find orbiting around so I can see both dots and/or zooming in is very helpful.) Click ONCE on it, and begin to push it horozontally "through" the board (Push the left edge through to the right side), now enter "-1" in the VCB, hit ENTER, and the part will be mirrored. Be sure to stay "on axis" with the movement. I use this procedure to mirror paneled door rails/stiles that are molded on one edge. You could of course, flip the wide side of the 2x4 or even flip it top-to-bottom by selecting the proper scaling points, pushing through and entering -1. This is one operation that will NOT be reflected in all instances of the component. Changing the length will change the length of all instances of the component, but mirroring will affect ONLY the single component your mirror. And, you can copy the mirrored component as many times as necessary, and lengthening either the mirrored copy, or the original, will be reflected on all instances of the component, original AND mirrored. Just another demonstration that there are often several different ways to accomplish the same thing in SU. GT

It isnt available native in SU, but there is a plugin called 'nudge'that will let you do this. See the link below. http://www.smustard.com/script/Nudge

Do you mean that when trying to draw a line between two points, the line itself is not created or there is no face created when the line is drawn? There is a glitch in SU when it comes to very small models; under about 1/16" it won't create faces properly. The general workaround is to draw your geometry in a bigger scale (in metric it's easy, say 10 times bigger) and after you finished, scale your model back to the desired size.

Thanks, Remus - but I don't really use Windows Explorer for anything really.

it is simply a case of writing it into the VCB, so for your line you would write 3' 4 15/16" hope that helps

It is a feature of the "Sketchy edges" style that you are using. Smaller details fade away the farther they are from the camera. Your mullions became visible when I moved the "level of detail" slider in the Style Edit window to the far right. The fading cannot be turned off altogether, so if that is not enough, the only option is to switch to a non-sketchy style. Anssi

@anssi said: ...When exporting larger than screen images, turn off Antialiasing from the Image export options, or SU will freeze or crash. Anssi The "biggest" export I have ever needed was 3500 x 3500 pixels and I did it with AA on (single 2.7 GHz CPU, 512 Mb memory and a 256 Mb ATI Radeon card - not a power machine at all...) True it was without shadows (then it froze big time).

That worked out perfect! Thanks a lot, I know if I keep working on this it will finally get easier for me. I am just having a hard time getting everything rotated into place the right way. I cant get my trusses to sit the direction I want them to for some reason. Thanks for the help!

Well, I'm not a Mac user myself so can't really give any advice. I know that OS 10.3 is not supported but I don't know if any next version will support it. As the things seem to be now, I guess the next version will be SU7 already - and that will take a while to fully beta test and bug fix before a public release.

@unknownuser said: ...Isn't the image inline option supposed the place the full image, not thumbnail? How does it work?[attachment=0:2skd4yye]<!-- ia0 -->Scap.jpg<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:2skd4yye] No, it only lets you place the attachment thumbnail between paragraphs so when you write longer etxts, the attachment can be within the text. Those who post in a way that the whole image is viewable host it somewhere else and use the [embed] tags to display it here.

About P/P, I did not even include ‘wild’ plane contours in the list. As I said before, sometimes it just is not worth it to know all these things for it is much easier to correct/reverse faces. As long as you remember the basic rules with P/P. I did something similar with textures and how they are applied to faces when deleting a mutual line from two adjacent coplanar faces with different textures. My list became so complex since not only the size but also the used shapes and many other things seemed to be involved here. Which face inherits what texture? I simply gave up. I learned a lot from doing that though. Now I know how to go about if something isn’t right. I followed the other thread about the spiraloid shaped stairs. There is another way (as always) to do this but it takes a lot of work. But first you need to figure out what slab shape you want. One thing you found out already. To create a nice curved shape for the stairs with ‘Follow Me’. I might participate in that thread if I find some time and when the results do not satisfy you. Don’t forget to use the P/P here to repeat pulling out the separate face-segments from a single curved surface (in ‘show Hidden Geometry’ mode). This could in one way help you to get the basic structure. cheers, Wo3Dan

Instead of extruding the pipes from each other, id probably do it by making standard frame sections and moving/rotating them into place. If you do want to try it by extruding the sections, i reckon you need the follow me tool, draw in a series of lines to represent the frame, the draw in a circle perpendicular to the end of each line, then use the folow me tool to get you tube.
