Intersect with model issues..
-
I am making a flat kind of knob shape that would have little knurled indentations for gripping, and when I try to intersect some little cylinders that I duplicated all around the knob, the geometry keeps getting screwed-up so there are missing pieces on all the little knob knurls and I can't repair the geometry.
Does anyone have any tips how I might avoid this problem? I would be eternally grateful!

Nevermind.

I think I figured out what the problem was. I think it was because my model was too small. I don't understand why that makes a difference in a computer environment though?

This is a well known and documented problem.
There are limits of 'smallness' (and 'bigness') with OpenGL. SketchUp is primarily made for modelling things the size of large building down to furniture etc. If you go a lot lot bigger you get clipping problems in views... if you go a lot smaller - towards knobs and other 'twiddly' bits - then sometimes the smaller faces can't be made.
The easy fix is to model these tiny bits much bigger x10, x100 or x1000 and then when they are made (successfully) you can scale them back down to suit by the appropriate inverse figures (x0.1, x0.01 or x0.001) - they don't loose faces after this scaling down: it's just the initial making of them so very small that causes the problem...

Thanks for the explanation. That's very good to know.

I almost hurt my brain on that one. I think my spirits broken. haha
