Hi folks. You will need to get some angles beside the length of the edges, otherwise your polygon will be undefined if it has more than 3 sides. To alleviate the need for angles, you can use triangulation. After dividing you lot in adjacent triangles, you can draw it using SU and a few tricks to draw triangles defined by 3 sides. These tricks avoids doing any calculations. Just ideas.

Thx to both of you. The plugin is working now and the tip from dedmin also works great. Never thought about doing it that way

thanks guys for all of the advice fortunately i'd already figured out groups and layers...i was hoping there were other ways of increasing performance in high detail models @jean lemire said: The idea to keep a fluid modeling is to minimize the workload on the graphic card. mmm...that seems to be the only way to increase performance...

That is frustrating to work on it for HOURS, not getting anywhere, then do it in 45 seconds. Good news is, I know how to do it now. And thats all that matters. Thank you rclub24 for helping me stay sane. Well, as close to sane as I'll ever get.

Hi Phoenix, that glue tool is a Layout's tool, a program that comes with SU pro. About your question, if you have two simple shapes like in your example, move them together and then delete the touching lines between coplanar faces. You can also have a look at BoolTools for more complex union operations.

Well, are you familiar with the "walk" tool? If not please get familiar with it. As for your idea, do you mean in real life like a hologram or VIA the computer? (apparently 3-D printers got me too excited now) So basicly your saying you want kids to go on the computer and look and walk around a model of whatever, first of all I think you personally can make one yourself easily with help from us. Like I said, get familiar with the walk tool first then come back to this, go ahead and try it out. By the way, you won't mind if I ask what grade are you teaching?

You have just turned 79 I assume. Do you live in Chiang Mai by any chance. You are going to provide Sketchup profiles and models for the warehouse? ... that would be appreciated by many I believe. Cheers

If registry entries do not exist, Sketchup creates them. So if it crashes, it might have created the missing entries which you can then edit and restart Sketchup so that it can proceed in the installation process until it works. So it works! This makes me very lucky. If you like to use ruby scripts or plugins, you need to convert the text files from dos format to unix format. There is a terminal program. In the terminal, go to the Sketchup/Plugin folder using cd, and then run the command *dos2unix .rb for converting all ruby files in that folder.

Jean's method is quicker to make any 'lathed' form from scratch. However, if you already have the main shape, or perhaps the 'groove' is not to be a full 360 degrees, or perhaps not parallel to the main form's base etc, then the intersect method is often better...
