I'm going to keep my suggestion to dump the mouse. There are a number of well documented problems, and although the track pad like control is fun, when things start to go wrong, your love for the beast will diminish fast. Before I quit using mine, it had started to lose its sensitivity, meaning doing most operations at least twice, then it would simply take off on its own, autoscrolling or whatever, then the pointer would simply vanish, then it basically gave up the ghost. In the end I just don't think you can manufacture something that is this finely sensitive that will hold up to the punishment that a mouse actually takes. Good luck though it's cool while it lasts.

Thanks, Jeff, that's just what I needed. You can tell I'm very new to Sketchup. I used your idea to push pull from left to right instead of bottom to top. I'm interested in viewing the tutorial you "forwarded" me involving a solution using "follow me", but the tutorial wouldn't show up on my computer (even after a Flash Player update).

Can you point me in the right direction with the shadows, having a hard time getting the shadows right. Is there a trick to the shadows in photomatch?

I would also recommend Twilight for price and quality. Very simple to set up, lots of high quality built in materials and the ability to import more that others have already made. Makes the set up process very quick and enjoyable. Puck

OK, the trick to align the rotate tool is as follows: Click on one of the endpoints of your (segmented) circle where it crosses the red axis DO NOT let the left mouse button go but drag the cursor along the red axis (the Rotate tool will turn into red showing when you are okay) NOW let the left mouse button go (the rotate tool will "stick" in this position) click anywhere and start rotating release everything and type 90 then press Enter.

Hey, I've taken a look at your cad files, this first I would suggest is that (if possible as you aren’t using AutoCAD) you try to use polylines over lines and join them together. This is just good CAD work flow and it will make it easier for you when it comes to sharing drawings and importing into SU. The second thing is, I see that you have several designs in one file. I create a special SU cad file that is separate from the design file, this allows me to cut, flatten and prepare the .dwg for import to SU without having to ruin the design file. Now in the prep for import you need to remember a few key things. One: All the lines look the same once they are in SU so make sure that one the lines that are important are there, get rid of any unnecessary lines like construction lines and layer properly. Two: Hatches don’t come into SU and from the drawing package you use are converted into blocks, either delete them as you will find a lovely texture to put in their place. Three: Make sure you don’t have any lines tracing each other; SU doesn’t like it when two lines occupy the same space. So if you have any duplicates tracing the same path delete them. Fourth: If you are new to SU I would make sure everything is flat, SU does 3D better than and CAD programme I’ve come across. Ok now into SU, First thing you do is the go to model info and purge the unnecessary data that you could remove in the drawing package. AutoCAD has a habit of adding layers that aren’t needed. Second select everything and then intersect with selected, SU 7 does this automatically when you are drawing a line but you need to do this with imports. Then select all again and use the make faces tool, I’ve found that with SU 7 the Make faces 1.1 plugin works where the 1.4? (I think that’s the name) doesn’t. That is all i can think off right now I hope it helps

@unknownuser said: back to matt though.. really, what you're drawing there is possible in sketchup but it's way more involved than a simple chamfer with rounded edges.. the angle of the bevel is constantly changing (at least how you have it drawn.. not sure if you're intending for it to look that way or not).. are you wanting a consistent bevel all the way around or are you aiming for the change in angles? Hmm. If I'm reading you right, the angle of the bevel should be consistent across each edge loop. I've got a few tight turn spots in there, but there shouldn't be any places where it'll rotate to a different facing or get wider or skinnier. Or at least there shouldn't be. So yeah, consistent bevels all the way.

You can insert a foreground image (say a transparent png file) at the bottom but it will look kind of weird in my opinion.

This puzzles me a lot the model has hardly any geometry, i managed to get the file size down to 13.3MB thats all. That is a pretty big filem my latest model was only 12MB http://liam887.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/final-shot1.jpg and for this to be more is very puzzling! My best guess is that the textures you are using are much higher resolution than they need to be. Have you tried making them smaller and then re-saving your file and checking the size? Apart from this I have no idea I tried my usual tricks but only like you only got to 13.3? good luck and when you find out what was wrong let me know I would be interested to find out!!

Posting your kitchen plan would make it easier. It is also more accurate to finish the cabinet. The design should be at least simple one to make it easier to do and paint.

@david will said: Is there a way to develop a web application to interact with the model in sketchup? i.e. load, remove, make transparent etc... Ok, firstly welcome, and yes I remember there being a discussion about this at somepoint. There are 3d Pdfs available now which be a solution. @unknownuser said: Say I have 2 groups defined in sketchup, Can I use the application mentioned above to store each group as a record in the database. Does sketchup have model interactivity i.e. if i select a group right click on it and select a defined menu item can I get a data grid that contains the info related to that group?[/ There is a plugin called 'stock maker' where you can select a component and give it some values etc. Though I'm not sure you can export a data base from it but i think you can. Hope that helps
