@jhearcht said: In SketchUp 6.4.265 I find most functions to be simple and intuitive. But the snapping function is the single most frustrating thing about trying to draw with in 3D. I am used to the sophisticated snapping constraints in my CAD application, which also does 3D, but with hardware intensive solid objects. It allows me to turn-off certain kinds of snap objects, such as "endpoint outside active", so the inference engine will ignore them, and snap only to the things I'm interested in. Apparently I'm the only one with this problem, because my searches in Help, Forums, and Tutorials find very little discussion of how the snapper operates, or how you can control what it jumps to. Am I missing something in SU? Does SU7 have any snapping improvements? You cannot toggle or control the nascent SU snapping. It is something you learn to watch and especially look for multiple snap points at your target. Make sure you have the snapping turned off in the model info, units dialog. Unfortunately even in the wire frame view you can still snap to hidden points although geo itself is not selectable in this view when hidden

I think if you go to this url and click on the date on the bottom it will make the connection. Better test it out first though. http://www.brightideasconsultants.com/Calendar.html The session is from 9:0 to 10:00 ( I assume Colorado time (mountain standard)

I see I am stuck in my ways as most of the software I use is similar to Mac in that I can open multiple files in the same instance. Maybe this post belongs in the Duh thread or even in Beginners Tips... Thanks

Hi yna and welcome! With the Pro version you can export your model (2d or 3d) into various vector based formats so yes, into revit or acad, too. If you want to print it in high definition, at the bottom right of your print dialog you can set the quality or even check "Use high accuracy HLR" which will print it vector based. There are a bunch of CAD programs that can even import SU files flawlessly, check out DoubleCAD for instance (it has a quite feature rich, free version with an option for a 30-day trial of the pro functions but you can opt out of it). http://www.doublecad.com/

Definitely go along grouping every individual part that you can just think of (or even better, as Mike says, you can use components, too). With just a moderately complex model you will be soon lost without grouping - not to speak about the complete inability to use layers (and scenes with them) to easily manage visibility either for presentational or even just modelling reasons.

su2kt.rb have a file that you must add the plugin for sketchup, and another that is the intala SU2KT3_0 where it has already done this, I suggest you save your export to the desktop of your cpu, may work .... I will be available, my e-mail contact is: redautocad@gmail.com Hope that helps. Hugs.

the autosave file is always in the same file as the model. To find out where your autosave default is open a new SU document and just hit save, then look which directory it is saving too, your file is prob there.

Then the only thing you can do is to slice the image up into smaller pieces and apply them individually to separate faces and adjust them like a puzzle in SU.

Oops, sorry I didn't give a link. I dug around a bit and I found this thread where he writes up a snippet of code that will import x,y,z data from a CSV file. So you would just want the beginnings that shows how to read the file into SketchUp. And then you would need to figure out a way to assign properties to components and such inside your model. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=28904 Sorry I am not much help here right now. His code is good, but it's not everything you need. So it will require some more work to get it to even begin to do what you want.
