Here's my guess at last. If you look at the plan below the roof model, I started using the rear slope (7:12) to complete the front high roof as indicated in previous posts. However I thought this looked worse so I changed it in the model to be 12:12 all sides of the front high roof. I also dropped the garage roof eave in the model, as I think this makes the symmetrical part work better. However that requires that you push the door wall of the garage out a little (no big deal), so the resulting roof works with the master bedroom roof. I left the "terrace" uncovered. I think that is a better design and creates the roof ridge of the central 7:12 in accordance with the elevation (not so high). Besides the plan has a dotted line at the "porch" indicating it is covered perhaps and the "terrace" is not. I scaled off the graphic and I think my roof is scaled different than yours, but the concept is there. The top of the high front roof is not to be flat really. You'd have a low slope in four directions, but you'd not see it really. Or a skylight with a dramatic shaft in the great room. OK-- so I see in yours the high pitch is only on two sides, that makes the ridge for the front element work. That looks pretty good. I wonder though if you can make the lower roof each side of that have more ridge and be symmetrical, plan allowing, to create a better visual support for the high roof. Good luck. It would be plagiarism as I have read something similar before.

Yes, gluing/cutting components can only cut holes on raw geometry, not on groups/components (but of course, they should be able to cut that holeon the raw geometry inside a group/component) as Shura says. Once a component lost its ability to cut a hole (or has been unglued), it cannot retain this ability any longer with native SU tools however. Now we have a nifty plugin, "Superglue" by Thomthom that will re-glue (and cut) these components. Not sure, but this might help you. I think that you may have to rotate your model before slicing, as a quick read is that it slices in the x, z plane.

Glad that worked. It's unlikely you'd have a problem with a single component but if you start adding a lot of parts to a model that all have a large number of entities, you will probably find the slow down.

@watkins said: Dear Jez, If you go to your previously referenced link, viz. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=46003, and try to access the SU model under "click me for sketchup models" in any of the three postings by El Nosbar, then you will see what I mean. Regards, Bob Okay, thanks. I thought you meant my site, not the forums. I've reported it to the mods there, so it will get fixed soon.

@unknownuser said: Why not just share your solution here? I'm intrigued You are right!I am really sorry, it didn't sound as intended. Well, what "the smack" (ME) did wrong was pushing TAB to see if my geometry was correct and anytime I liked it, I exported the model to dae so that I could import it to SU. What I should have done was push D to subdivide the model, (TAB only gives preview of the subdivided geometry) thats why it kept on delivering the undivided model. Kind of embarrassing actually!!!! The thing now is that the dae file is quite big in MB. For instance the sofa you saw attached is 10.8 MB and without any texture. Guess that my inquiry is not over after all!!!!

je suis d'accord avec Pilou. why would you toil laboriousy thru it in SU when another program could do it with more fluidity and then just import it? Not that I do any of that, but Just an observation.

Yes, everything is about "inferencing" in SketchUp. Here is a list (simple search results) of some tutorials Dave mentioned on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sketchup+inferencing&aq=f This is probably the most powerful feature of SU so you should really get a good grip of it.

I had given up on the idea of showing internal illumination of an LED-TV screen on the shaded side of the building. But I just discovered a glitch that looks like internal illumination. The first image is the normal image with two signboards. The second is what happened while I was playing with the UTC setting for time of day. The rendering would stop with everything dark except the screen facing the sun. Then after a few random clicks, it would render properly. I don't have any idea what's going on here. But maybe someone can figure out how to take advantage of this anomaly to simulate internal lighting for an object in shade. Thanks Mac, I have encorporated your roof into my model. It will be much easier to build. I will post a finished model soon. Bob
