Okay I gave the suggestion from Dave a try. You have to use the menu if you do this, and dig the commands out by drilling down. So the procedure would be something like "Tools" and then "Paint Bucket". That may seem a bit silly; or it might be a case of how sick and tired you have become of selecting commands! The cursor then follows the selection being called out which is not ideal. What you can do with VR and Sketch Up is this. Call out the shortcut for the new tool and it will exchange at the current cursor position which is nice. That lends some practicality to using the VR software. VR does a pretty good job at calling up commands compared to dictation with Word. With Windows the process is "Press 'L'", which gives the pencil. You want to orbit, so call out "Press 'O'". What I like now is undo, redo, and escape are just called out by name. Say "undo" and it will undo. Or "escape" to drop a tool. Cheers Nick

Have you used SketchUp at all? If you have you should know how to take something from 2D to 3D. It's almost the most basic action there is in SketchUp. Importing the vector lines into SketchUp instead of drawing them is the only difference in this case. Without an example of what you are trying to do, it is difficult to give more guidance. Meet us half way at least and give us some useful info to be able to help.

Layout is an extension of sketchup that allows you to arrange production sheets with views of your model. As for drafting in sketchup, you can set your view to orthographic in Camera>Parallel Projection. You can activate the toolbar Views for iso, top, left, right, front in View>Toolbars>Views. Click on this and a toolbar with little house icons will pop up. Does this help?

That's nice, Jeff. For me the only thing that's missing is a pic of the plane slicing the cylinder... to show the lack of continuity and stepping (which isn't cause you say it's a sine curve?). You sliced it and multiple copied it? Show it all, man, cylinder with multiple slicing planes. BTW, is that a dynamic component spinning or what?

The example SKP did indeed have custom axes. To reset to the model-axes place the cursor over an visible axis line and right-click and use 'reset'. Then draw the line parallel to the red axis and a unconnected curve, orient the group and make the bend...

Hi all, just in case the point was lost, the easiest way to locate a point at which to scale the circle is: hover the cursor over and around the circumference of the circle, (with the move function engaged) the points at which the blue circle "clicks off" (turns black) is one of the points at which you can scale the circle.

That "clone" is my other alias. You know, I am a schizo. As for the French forum: no, it is not locked. The parent forum, the "Foreign language forums" is locked from posting but when you enter the French subforum, you can post there.

Here is a quite inexpensive alternative: http://www.smustard.com/script/BoolTools And here is a free alternative (although I know that "strictly physically speaking" you cannot alternate between three things but only two): http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=14773 This latter says "for SU 8" so either upgrade to SU 8 or upgrade your forum profile: http://forums.sketchucation.com/ucp.php?i=profile&mode=profile_info

This www-site will quickly covert NCS to RGB for you http://jsfiddle.net/jdias/b3hEa/ then you can just use the three RGB values it gives you in the SKP's material-editor to make a new material to match... It would be easy enough to incorporate this code into a webdialog and then make the color for you... Perhaps some brave scripter might have the time to do it [one day]...

@dave r said: The results are to be expected when you divide up a face into smaller faces. It really is exactly the same thing happening as when you have a 3D shape, draw a smaller face and push that in. You can skin those recesses by tracing a line segment along the edge of the recess. It would be better to start with just the outline of the gun and extrude that. Then add the lines for the various smaller faces and use Push/Pull on those. Since the gun is mostly symmetrical, model one half of it. then copy the half with Move/Copy and flip the copy to make the opposite half. I will try this. Thanks

An alternative would be to move the vent component into place, Hit Ctrl+X to cut the component, open the lid component for editing and hit Edit>Paste in place. Since you're getting into nesting components you might think about how the lid could/should be made. I would set up something like this if you look at the Outliner <Lid assembly> |- <Dome> |- <Handle> |- <Hook> |- <Vent> This will make it easy to handle the lid assembly and yet leave the parts as separate components.
