@espadrille said: Hello everybody ! Sorry for up this old topic but I'm new and I'm very interesting in this special technique... But I need your help. I'm french and I don't understand few words in this tutorial, and when I try to translate them, it gives me a very bad traduction. In the first point, I don't understand "rubbed out heaps" what do we have to do in photoshop ? What does it mean ? And again in the third point "deleted heaps" Then in the second point, what is "jitter lines" in skechup ? Thank you for your answer. Rich beat me to it, but since I had already typed this... I repeat... Translation: 'Rubbed out' is a way of saying 'Erased' [effacé]. 'Heaps' is a way of saying 'A Lot' or 'Lots' [beaucoup]. So 'Rubbed out heaps' - is 'Erased a lot' [effacé beaucoup]. 'Deleted heaps' is much [image: 2vmF_Capture.PNG]the same [effacé beaucoup]. 'Jitter Lines' is a 'Style' setting in Sketchup - not sure what the French phrase is... This technique also uses 'Endpoints' set in 'Style' too...

You're quite welcome. Make friends with that tool and the Edit>Delete Guides tool as well.

It may be your mouse. I have had this, too. When you double click with the middle mouse button, it is actually a sort of mouse shortcut to quickly zoom into (center the view at) what you are double clicking. Now when my mouse got broken, it sometimes double clicked automatically which drove me crazy. If you double click into empty space (even "seemingly" near your component), you may be taken far away. Check if another mouse does the same.

Try to redraw some of the edges of the wall. If you have not gone out of alignment (and your "supposed to be" wall is still coplanar), this should heal the missing faces. For the future however: make your walls a group before adding any furniture and stuff. If you cannot succeed, attach the model here.

I also use Sketchup mostly for creating laser cutting files. My own experience is that AutoCAD (dxf, dwg) files rarely work well - for example, the segments making up a curve will often all be exported as many small 'closed' curves, such that every small segment is cut individually from one end to the other and back again, and often in seemingly nonsensical order. For this reason, I tend to use the SVG export plugin that Jim suggested (together with CorelDraw or InkScape if I need to tweak the SVGs) - sounds like a hassle, but I find it can actually be far less labour intensive than trying to 'clean up' an AutoCAD file. Of course, this will depend on what cutter/laser software you are using - so let us know what your spec's are; if they are the same as what I use here, I'd be happy to share what I've learned over the last year or two.

In Ruby, sub-routines are refered to as methods and are defined by "def method_name" as the first line and "end" as the last line. Modules contain any number of methods and are defined by "module Module_Name" as the first line and "end" as the last line. When a method is placed inside a module, it is normally coded def self.method_name where self. refers to the module containing it. Two modules can contain methods with same name but do different things and there is no conflict because the modules will have different names. You should get a Ruby programming reference book if you ever expect to read and understand what the various code statements mean.

  • Export layers or groups to illustrator?

Since layers in sketchUp are a different animal than in Illustrator or ACad and they aren't used to provide separation, there wouldn't be much point in retaining those layers from SketchUp. Perhaps you could create scenes that show different layers and make exports one at a time for each scene. Associate different layers with different groups/component ans use the layers in SketchUp to control which groups/components are visible for each scene.

Knight, Others may do better than me, but I think that it would be easier for people to suggest things if you explained what is wrong with the picture (what are you trying to do that is not there) and posted the SketchUp file in this thread. Even if we see where you are not getting what you want, the particulars of the model cannot be understood by pictures alone. If these "layers" are groups, pushpull will only work inside a group. It won't affect other groups. Pushpull comes to "constraints" as it moves into secondary faces, where faces are not square, or some geometry connected to the P-P face would be impossible (illogical) were the face to move further. If I were puzzling over such a thing I might turn on "color by axis" in Styles ( Style window: "Edit, Edges tab, Color: by axis") to see how my object edges are aligned (assuming they are related to the model axes at all). Also are you modeling in parallel projection? I find perspective view is easier to work in, in most cases. Parallel has particular uses, mostly for the orthogonal views. Please try posting the file. Good luck. Peter
