I usually keep Entity Info Panel hanging on the right side of the main window. When I need to name groups, I just type in there, easy... unless you work on a laptop, then you have a real estate problem.

Jerry, it would be easier if I could see your model. If you don't want to post it, you could send it to me in a PM. Very likely you have cumulative rounding errors.

You can also use the Quick Lathe by Trogluddite No more problem of find a perpendicular face,...etc...! Just draw the axe of rotation! Careful select only the surface and not surface + the perimeter! At the end you can move the cap surface with surprise result! A very, very funny plugin! Also, if your thinking of rendering you could take the approach the legendary Silver_Shadow used in "The River Runs Through it". http://www.sketchupartists.org/tutorials/sketchup-and-advanced-modeling/the-river-runs-through-it/ If not' like me you'll pick up a hell of a lot of modeling technique from this.

*You need the latest version [v8M2] to get that installer button. If you install it you will not loose any plugins or other preferences you have set for the current version. The SketchUcation 'Plugin Store' dialog based toolset also allows you to Auto-Install plugins, but that requires at least the newest version of v8 too. Another way is to rename the 'xxx.rbz' file as 'xxx.rbz.zip' [an RBZ file just is a ZIP file with a different suffix] Then extract the files from the zip and install them manually into the Plugins folder, ensuring that the files and any subfolders of files are maintained in their same relative relationships as in the zip-file itself.* Necesitas la última versión [v8M2] para conseguir que el botón de instalación.

Mike, to answer your specific question, it wouldn't be an easy thing to adjust the spacing between the ribbons. It would require a change in the radius of the curves. The Scale tool could be used to squash things flatter but it would make the ribbons thinner, too. Are you thinking of a sort of panel of woven wood strips? If so I think the idea from the Parisian Fence is good. Make a small section that you can repeat and make that a component. Then copy that into an array. I do that for grilles. Here's a simple example. [image: 5979597868_808f4b6fcc.jpg] This grille is made of three different components, shown on the right. The faces that fall in the seams are deleted (magenta is the back face color for this example) and the seam lines on the horizontal surfaces are hidden.

@dave r said: Nathan, you might experiment with the OpenGL settings under Preferences. It might be that you'll find ticking or unticking the boxes another combination will give you better performance. Start by turning off Use Hardware Acceleration. Dave, I just finished trying what you had suggested, yet nothing has served to alter the condition. I tried everything - within that 'OpenGL' settings area - but no change. Being that the program HAD run as smooth as it possibly could, and is problematic in that area now - especially after my not having changed any settings by which to cause it - I am left with the assumption that the causative factor has to lie within my computer, itself. But I thank you, as always, for your input. Nathan

Well, you can at least use the free version to become at least somewhat proficient before you decide. I find that for most drawing tasks I don't need more than I could get with the free version. I use the pro version mostly for LayOut and the occasional CAD import or export.

if your Library's hidden, you can use SU's 'Ruby Console' to find and open it for you Select All then copy and paste this into 'RC' and hit return/enter open_Templates = %x(open "#{Sketchup.find_support_file('Templates')}") then delete as desired... john

Ah.... So there were several things in the way. I suspect you wouldn't have needed to reload Make to get this all to work. Now that it is, you should be in great shape. Thanks for the plug, too.

I have a Logitech LX5 Cordless Laser Mouse that wouldn't orbit using the scroll wheel. I have just discovered the solution from a Logitech forum, to re-assign the scroll wheel to "middle button". Works great now http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Mice-Software/LX5-can-t-orbit-or-pan-in-3DS-Max-or-SketchUp/td-p/198517

You could fix it if you have to, and sometimes you do. You could run Intersect Faces>With Model to intersect the component and group with the rectangle on the ground and then delete the stuff under the component and group. If you want any sort of efficiency when you are drawing you should work on consistency in the way you work. The Push/Pull thing is a good example. Staying on top of reversed faces is another. Another thing in your example: why is one of the things a group while the other is a component. They probably ought to both be groups or both components but not one of each. You need to learn and use good habits as with anything else in life. And the only way to do that is practice. It will come, though.
