I guess it depends on your attitude. I don't see that as a work around. As for why the top view is as it is, it starts with the standard front view which is the view you get with the default solid red axis running to the right and the solid green running away from the camera. The other standard views including the top view are correctly developed from that view. These are standards that have existed since before SketchUp. Look at any textbook on drafting. The default axes are located such that the red(X, solid red = positive) and green(Y, solid green = positive) are on the ground plane and solid blue is positive Z. Moving the axes does not change the real X,Y,Z orientation or the orientation of the standard views. It doesn't change the location of the ground plane, either. In over 10 years I haven't ever found a need to move the model axes but I've seen plenty of cases in which moving them has caused other people grief.

You can export shortcuts from one install to another and you can share a template which is just a blank SketchUp file but since the toolbar positions are registry entries, I think they'd have to be written by the program. It would be nice to have a way to do it but I'm certainly not the guy to make it happen.

It's also in the PluginStore here at SCF... Why not post in its thread at SCF if you have questions relating to it...

Look at http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=352084#p352084 which has something that works on PCs before v2014... But it'd need recasting for v2014...

Well we actual found that if you make the outline by material it dose what we wanted it to in that you can make a line a different color and in turn make your text a solid color at any zoomed out or close up level. Thanks for the help.

Mac1: What I meant to imply by the term "efficiently" was the relative amount of manual effort required to accomplished a task within SketchUp. Manual effort can loosely be define as any task which requires a user to work on low-level geometry (faces, edges, vertices) when it is reasonable to expect SketchUp to take care of the task for you. This is important to me for several reasons. First, I have found that it is really easy ruin a SketchUp model by messing with geometry. My preference is to deal with atomic objects and to let SketchUp deal with geometry. Hopefully, that gives a clearer definition of what I meant by the "efficiently". Thanks for your comments.

To find materials & plugins folder for Mac users: Find SU2014 folder in Applications Right-click on SU folder and select "Show View Options" This directs you to the Contents folder Navigation Path is: /Applications/SketchUp 2014/SketchUp.app/Contents/Resources/Content

Unfortunately that's for an earlier driver version. The big thing is that the new version does not even have the choices for Navigation Modes in Advanced Settings!!

ThruPaint sounds perfect, going to try it now, thanks for the pbacot. I make some of my models in GtkRadiant (used for q3, similar to hammer for hl1/source), and export as OBJ.

If you add a section-plane inside a group or component [by editing the 'container']... then it only cuts what is in that context - in this case just the walls. If you add a section-plane in the model itself it will cut everything.

Just some words of caution: IF you are unable to widen the ramp surface to extend under the ballustrade sufficiently, a sharp eyed inspector may say you need some kind of "kickboard" or curb for compliance. This might be related to use of a cane or crutches and the likelihood of these slipping off the ramp surface. Then again, this may not be a problem in your particular case. Excessive rail extension at the bottom of the ramp can also be a hazard under some circumstances.

@x1l3nt said: To color lines I've been using Window > Styles > edit > edges > color set to by material and then using the paint bucket tool but for some reason this is no longer working for me, I must have changed a setting or something, help would be appreciated thanks! You may have changed scenes to one that hasn't "by material" saved. So edges are black again without noticing that you changed back the style to "edges color all the same".

Also, there is a shortcut for creating a new layer while you are inside the Entity Info window. You can just type the new layer name inside the Layer: field and press enter to move the selected entity into the new layer without having to create the new layer first. Just us jiminy and Dave suggested: A best practice is to draw all your individual entities on Layer 0 and leave them there. Only after you turn individual entities into groups or components you should associate those groups or components with different layers. When you look at the Layers window the radio button should always be on for the Layer0 and never on for any other layer. Just use the visibility check boxes to enable and disable a particular layer visibility.

Hello, I might be a year or so late, but just was browsing around in posts, and ended up at your post. In case you are still interrested in different ways to draw a hull, I attached my way of drawing. It is certainly not the best way, but it's A way. Using the original linesplan of a ship. Each line at different levels have a x,y coordinate, which put together gives the lines of the hull. All these lines stacked on top of each other give then the complete linesplan, which you can then close on the outside to create your hull. Basically the system works as how Delfship uses their program, but there I always turned up to set the coordinates wrong, which resulted in very strange shapes suddenly. Hope this helps, enjoy
