Hi Edvinas, In such a case like yours, I'd rather go by using an image than modelling the 3D letters. Have a look at this topic - there are two different approaches in it; one with projecting the label and the other is with wrapping it onto the bottle.

Window -> Styles go to the Edit tab, select the first icon (3d box with no faces, only lines), and uncheck endpoints. My preference is to make sure all of those are unchecked as they slow down your model. Only use them if you want them on to print or export. -Brodie

Try the Twilight, V-ray and Podium render engine plugins, they're pretty much the best and easiest to use, at a good price. They all have trials, and I think they also have student discounts, so give them a try and report back. http://www.twilightrender.com/ http://software.asgvis.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=297&Itemid=199 http://www.suplugins.com/

you could also do the 2d thing, then P/P then ctrl P/P, then delete faces on top and edges on bottom (not necessary). of course it helps to have selection toys plugin for this method.

Hi numbthumb, My main reason is because I have designed an airport training centre which will ideally be connect via roads to the main airport with runway, terminal etc. A person who is designing the same project would be ideally useful. Regards

Hi Vercors, Nice attempt on your design for the stadium. From a distance, it looks alright however it needs to be 'polished' off making the corners stand out. Try starting from the inside (pitch, goal,) then on towards the inner part (seats, box office, shops,tv crew) then onto outer layer (pathway, route) before finished on the outside (visual part outside). Hope this helped. DeS

I'm just starting to make money using sketchup. I help to plan events in and around Boston. Some of the things I've been paid to do were... Model traffic flow around street closures, show pedestrian flow, describe an area to be a beer garden for liquor license applications(licensed area, exits, security), tent layouts, table layouts, stages, calculate usable area to set guest capacity for fire permits, I can brand a booth with a potential client's logos for the sales team... the list goes on. I helped with Sail Boston, WFNX/Phoenix Best Music Poll, Harvard Football, Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Fest and many, many smaller functions. A few hotels have hired me to model their function rooms in different layouts to be included in the sales package. I have an unfinished web site if you want to check it out. Event3D.blogspot.com It's just thrown together to have something to link to for clients.

Hi Ryan, Never heard that there would be a limit. Are you saving these styles separately afterwards or are all these styles with different backgrounds are in the same file?

Yes, I am interested. So far, so good. Note however (when hidden geometry is on), that some parts are made of rather much geometry which won't help keeping the model clean. Especially near the bow (where also there is a little bend-in in the mesh). Some suggestions also: After you make the mesh with SSB, convert the group into a component (right click the group > Make component) After mirroring, do not explode the two parts. When they are instances of the same component definition, you will only need to work on one half at a tzime and all the changes will be reflected on the other half (not to mention savings in file size). There are some inaccuracies in the modelling process somewhere. An example; here the two halves do not perfectly align. You can easily move them together at this point but when I placed the deck on top of the hull, I noticed other misalignments, too. When dealing with such geometry, always double check these little details othewise you can easily end up with some troublesome things later. [image: hJ8O_Move1.jpg] [image: LLov_Move2.jpg] All in all, very nice for "baby steps" and I can already see where you are going (although the horizon of a baby is still somewhat smaller) so feel encouraged to learn to run, too.

Hi folks. When using the Dimension Box DB (formerly named Value Control Box or VCB), you can use a scale factor such as 1.5 or 7.3 or 5 or whatever number. If you add a unit suffix like "in", "ft", "mm", etc, you will get that exact dimension along the axis on which you are scaling. Even better, if you scale along two direction or three direction , you can eneter separate scale factor or separate exact dimensions like 3',4' to get a 3 feet by 4 feet box. If you have a ratio like 9/7, you can of course use a calculator to get 1.2857142857 and type that in the DB. You can also use the trick explained in the attached SU file. Just ideas. Scaling using a ratio without calculating.skp

Hi Alan, I missed your post. Perhaps I do not understand Walter's question, but the following is what I understand. Btw, by back face, do you mean the unseen faces behind the ones you can see in the scene? If so I did the following with some success. "Select all" in the scene with right to left window, and explode as necessary to eliminate all components and groups. "Select" in the scene with a left to right window, then "add" to "select"ed, the individual faces at the perimeter of the scene. Make the combined selection into a component, using default name, but "do not replace selection with component". Open component menu, select "model" components, select the default name component, then "save as" skp file. The saved file, includes only the faces that can be seen in the scene. They include however, portions of the visible faces that are behind other visible faces. Open the "default component name" file, but do not save changes to the original file. Step 2 only selects the visible faces completely within the select window, and the balance of the faces along the perimeter must be individually selected. You can skip step 1 if you want the components, and groups to be part of the new file. It will however, contain the back faces within each component, and group.

Some useful stuff on this page. http://www.carlsondesign.com/ including the Hull Designer software near the bottom of the page (free) It also mentions a design program for sheet metal work, which (I think) is on this page. http://pagesperso-orange.fr/robert.laine/sailcut/index.html

Solved relocating the insert point. Just open the component with SU, and center it over the workspace origin. Be sure that you are in the view perpendicular to the face-me surface, zoom extents for good measure, then save the component. Btw, you can not place 2d objects closer then their combined widths without running the risk of them overlapping as you orbit.
