Can SU scale using a ratio, rather than selecting a line / surface and then having to independently calculate the size that you want it scaled to?

You can scale by entering the value of that ratio in the VCB box. AFAIK SketchUp does not accept ratios as input but as mentioned you can calculate the value of that ratio and enter it in the VCB. You don't have to "select a line / surface and then ... independently calculate the size that you want it scaled to": you just select an object you want to scale, pick the scale tool and scale it uniformly by the value of that ratio.

You can use the scale tool to input a specific value. Select the item to scale put in any ratio then immediately input the actual value you want. No calculation needed. Check out some of the youtube videos on the scale tool.

            Hi folks.

When using the Dimension Box DB (formerly named Value Control Box or VCB), you can use a scale factor such as 1.5 or 7.3 or 5 or whatever number. If you add a unit suffix like "in", "ft", "mm", etc, you will get that exact dimension along the axis on which you are scaling. Even better, if you scale along two direction or three direction , you can eneter separate scale factor or separate exact dimensions like 3',4' to get a 3 feet by 4 feet box.

If you have a ratio like 9/7, you can of course use a calculator to get 1.2857142857 and type that in the DB.

You can also use the trick explained in the attached SU file.

            Just ideas.
