Zoom extents, then export a jpeg. In the jpeg export dialog window, press the "Options" button. Then change the image resolution to something much higher than screeen resolution. SU does not support anything over 9999 pixels I think. And I will often get crashes when try to save anywhere over 8,000 pixels wide or tall if the model is complex. So always save before exporting a high resolution image. And turn OFF anti-alias. If you leave anti-alias turned on, then SU often struggles with images over 4,000-5,000 pixels. Chris

Hi Daniele, hi folks. Use the Move Tool: 1 - Grab the object by the endpoint that you want to be at the axes origin (X=0, Y=0 and Z=0). 2 - Move untill you get a snap from the origin. Just ideas.

@smoscowitz said: I want to build an entertainment center. I would like to try and design it on sketchup. The program opens with a perspective view. Is that all there is? Basics: SketchUp lets you build 3D models. The model's the thing. Usually you'll want to view it in perspective. Top, front, back, side and bottom views are also available. Xray views, too. Lots of choices, but the model's the thing. Start with a Rectangle. PushPull it into 3D. Then learn to Orbit, Hand (not its real name, but H is the keyboard shortcut and it looks like a Hand on the toolbar and when you use it) and Zoom in and out. I wrote a tutorial on this. It's still free.

@gadgetmanmike said: I use the tape measure and often it just plain doesn't create guide lines even tho. it just did and the tool is still selected. If you measure from an edge (line) out along a face you get a guide. If you measure from a vertex (line intersection) SketchUp thinks you are measuring and reports the distance. AutoCAD is a drafting tool. SketchUp is a designing tool. Don't get sucked into silly discussions of which is better. Both are excellent at their core purpose. Try my tutorial. It's still free.

It is inherent in Sketchup (as I understand) not to tolerate an extreme number of points, which when connected become faces which are called poly's. A total station has no problem generating a large population of points. Sketchup has a problem if it has to make faces out of all the edges that the points potentially represent. Not that it can't, but big files become cumbersome.

I guess the very problem here is how to take those photos to create the correct texture in the first place.

I'd use Fredo's Bezier Plugin for the framework etc tocreate a series of lines. Then use either 'Follow Me' tool or 'Lines to Tubes' plugin to beef it out! [image: kcy3_Frame.jpg] [image: wR0E_Frame2.jpg]

Hi folks. Method 1 1 - Open the model from which you want to use parts. 2 - Copy the parts that you want to transfer in the new model (select then CTRL-C). 3 - Open new model. 4 - Paste and then move to proper place or paste in place to paste at the same geometrical ccordinates they where in the original model. Method 2: 1 - Open new model. 2 - Import the SKP file of the old model to bring it inside the existing model. It will come in as a component. 3 - Edit the component and remove unwanted parts. 4 - If required, explode the component. Method 3: 1 - Load old model. 2 - Save a copy of the using File Menu --> "Save as ..." 3 - Draw the new stuff in this model. Just ideas.

I can't get my head around this - can you post an image or two... The Protractor tool makes guide-lines at exact angle [degrees or A:B]. It's probably quite straightforward but can you show us some steps - start/end condition desired etc etc...
