When the book mentioned Maxwell, I suppose it could be changed to Twilight or another renderer?

brighter 3D does look good, although im not really an expert. Better think hard to decide if it will be better than Twilight or Light up and see if I can catch the sale.

I use one with sketchup, and as box said its pretty much the same as a mouse. With mine i've set one of the buttons on the pen as the middle mouse button, so you can still orbit/pan without having to switch tools in SU. You still need to switch to the zoom tool, though.

Are you not using components and layers and scenes for visibility management?

Hi All If you are using logitech devices along with setpoint in XP try this: open the logitech setpoint application (mouse and keyboard settings). You can get to this by opening the application directly or through the "mouse" application in the control panel select the mouse you are using on the pull down menu now, here is the key operation....on "scroll wheel" which is menu item no. 3, select "Other" from the tasks available for the scroll wheel, then select the function "Generic Button" from the rather large number of possibilities. Be sure when the "other" task for the scroll wheel is selected, no 3 now reads "generic button". click on "apply" and you should be all set. Regards Jim

Yes but wow its a lot of work to make each dimension line into a block! I suppose for the break lines I was dreaming of a tool that will actually cut the model where ever u add the breakline. Do you use SU for details etc?

@syburn said: Hi, How to get a decent relflected image in my reflected surfaces. I often only model stand alone elements and furniture etc so there will be no walls or ceilings etc. You can use simple studio light scene or like here or HDR lightning. Just find, buy or made suitable spherical hdr image for the sky. There are also some pre made HDR globals at Kerkythea repository. This simple render was done with HDR lighting and one IES light. nothing beats podium - sorry, its true. I'm sure there are more "advanced" tools, but for people looking of a get-to-the-point easy to learn program, podium is good.

It's an infrequent and usually non-repeatable bug in SUp that Mirror.rb seems to encounter now and again. Some set ups and systems seem more prone than others. I developed this version of Mirror and the BugSplat comes when you mirror collections of certain types of geometry that aren't grouped - can't see a common denominator AND I've never had one***. You can try grouping before mirroring and exploding afterwards and see it that helps. It seems to be something to do with the way/order that SUp processes grouped objects - Mirror.rb temporarily groups your selection, makes the copy and mirrors it and then if desired deletes the original - it's often this deletion can lead to these rare splats. There is a recent discovered clash between the Demeter.rb script and Mirror.rb (and Grow.rb) because Demeter has an aider-plugin called blankslate.rb and that seems to rewrite a bit of the way SUp+Ruby processes groups. This causes a crash every mirror+delete-original so it's unlikely to be your cause since it's intermittent ? ***I HAVE experienced that ! Until someone in SUp+Ruby fixes the flaky interpreter and group manipulation coding then occasional splats might randomly occur. So save beforehand and try pre-grouping what you are about to mirror - please let me know if you get any joy...

It's been said... You can't edit the SUp base materials in the browser. BUT you CAN edit the model's materials (see 'little house' button in browser). IF you have made a material in a model that you want to be accessible to any future models - via the 'base set' - then do a "Save_As" of this new material (in the model's material browser window select it and right-click to get a context menu...). Put it with only similar materials in your Materials folder structure... New models get access to it...

@pmiller said: Or just use SU's "save copy as" as you need. It doesn't interrupt your workflow (unlike "save as") since the original model stays current in your working session. Yeah, that's what I'de've suggested reading your lines...

i am not sure if that is important to you but i always try to get rid of the distortion caused by the perspective (walls not parallel but opening up). two ways to do it: camera>>two-point perspective or setting the line of view parallel to the ground (the observer's eyes look to a point at the same height as his or her eyes).
