      Hi,

Just tried SU for IPAD. Has anyone used it much?

Not bad really but I wish it had a few more functions like:

Plan view and front back etc
      More unsnaps
Better dimension tools - its very hard to dimension things with curved corners

and a freehand drawing tool with an Auto smooth wound be amazing!

Do you think will have to wait till end of year for the usual MINOR updates

    • Model size

      Hi,

I am building a Victorian market with has lots of columns and girders and bracing, but before I go too far it occurred to me that once finished my model might be so slow to be useless (not made such a large space before). So far I have been using follow me to form the moldings and imported some capital heads.

Any advice on how to reduce the final model size but still retain the detail. Its 4mb now with only 2 columns drawn and there are about 24 all together.

      Regards,

      Sybun

    • Make displacement maps alter geometry

      Hi,

Is there any way to do this or use any plugin?

I want to use an image (as displacement map) to affect the model to add textures or 3D shapes onto the model.

.IMO, one needs both a poly modeler AND a NURBS modeler (and a topology modeler). I still enjoy using both SketchUp and MoI and go between them often.

Brilliant! So could I for example build the walls and regular stuff in Sketchup and import the MOI curved objects into it. Or the other way round?

II actually want to 3d Print my results, so hpe that it will perform well in that way.

      Dear Pilou,

Actually I am a bit confused. This gray coloured parametric editor seems not part of MOI. Can you confirm if its a seperate plug in?

Is it same as Grasshopper function wise?

Any Idea when MOI version 4 is out?

WOW - and you can draw with a tablet it seems. Want to trial this software. Does not seem to have the large backing and slick organisation that other softwares have - makes me wonder how long the software will be around?

      Thanks!

      Hi,

Has anybody used this plug in? Reason is I was going to move to Rhino with grasshopper as my new modelling tool but was sort of wondering if Viz pro for SU would be the same.

I want to get into generatine design and everyone seems to be using Grasshopper in Industry.

I want to explore 3d printing in interiors so i expect I will be looking for freeform and organic forms as conventional construction is alread doing square types of designs very well.

So its more organic, curvy, with patterns on the surface.

The guy was expecting me to use Solid works, but as im an Interior Designer its more natural that I come from the Sketchup or 3D Max direction.

I cant say if I am a good modeler though. But I do expect to be creating more curvey free form models when I do to 3D printing, which i dont have any experience in doing actually. Bit scared of leaving my world of boxes behind.

      Cheers

    • Was told sketchup is bad for 3d printing

      Hi,

Was just talking to the 3d printing workshop and when they did not mention sketchup as a software to use, I asked why and they said it causes a lot of problems. I have not 3d printed anything let, but if I do it woud be with sketchup as thats what I'm more comfortable with.

But is Sketchup problematic for 3d printers? Another person said there is a lot of issues with faces.

Look forward to any feedback you might have.

      Regards

      Hi,

I cant seem to get the correct name to appear on my components area. Sometimes they show a skp-name which I have not asked for, sometimes they show the name I have given. But Actually all the components I have changed the name.
Also how to change by Unknown to that I want it to say?

      Thanks

When you get this message below, how to make sure you retain the scale of the model that you have worked very hard to achieve, because the imported model came in a massive scale that was wrong in sketchup?

"The selected component has a non-default scale. Would you like to save the compoenent usung this scale."

      Save as - great!
      Axis, check!

      1. How to get a getter picture of my component in the little thumb nail viewer. Sometimes it gives my a crap view I never asked for.
      2. Also Is there a place to reset / overide the old component names cos i very sick of the compnents having names that I did not set.
      3. Also Why is by "unknown" always unknown. I would change it to me or the company I got the model from if i knew how.
      4. Why sometimes do I get files saves as .tmp
      5. If I have 2 identical components but on explorer they are very different model MB size, how to check why?

Cheers - its a lot of questions but i tend to have lots of questions so that i can make sure im doing things right.

    • More queries about my imported 3ds furnitures

      Hi,

I have imported my 3ds component models messed around getting the orientation and scale correct and filling in the component name etc. A few things I cant solve.

When I save as the component into my componet folder i created, it saves as a skp file but when i oven the file its no longer a component. all the vertices etc are seperate.

When I view the component little picture in the component tab to the right hand side, sometime the picture is back to front, even after I have realighned the axis.

I would include the file but its 38mb as it comprises of 6 furnitures that are heavy!

Its from Minotti - they also have the file in Obj format what ever that is?. I see you draw a construction line on the bounding box to allow easy rotating.

      Cheers!
