Differences between LayOut 3 and LayOut 2017? Wow! There's a lot of differences. Some of the most noticeable are:

The ability to create tables directly in LO. Import XLS/XLSX spreadsheet files and retain a dynamic link form the original file. Similar to the link with inserted SketchUp files. Auto-text for things like page number, page name. Auto text in labels can display component definition names and/or description. Dimensions linked to the SketchUp file so changes to dimensions in the SketchUp model will be reflected in the dimensions displayed in LO. Smart handling of small dimensions. Arrows outside extension lines, text placed outside the extension lines when the text won't fit between. Automatic leader inserted. In general more stable and a whole lot faster rendering in Vector and Hybrid.

There are other things as well. And in SketchUp there are many improvements over SU8.

I use DIBAC for laying out my walls in plan (2D). What is attractive about DIBAC is that it is very fast for editing layouts before the walls are lifted up, either with its own internal tools, or simply with the push pull tool itself.

To be able to edit quickly in plan is the key - as I imagine you can agree. DIBAC allows me to do so.

It's a typical "scope of use" clause - you can literally take the title at it's word - "USE OF THE PRODUCTS; CONTENT IN THE PRODUCTS".

In other words, what you draw with "your" version of SketchUp, and what you do with said drawings, is your business. You just can't take SketchUp apart and modify it, sell it, bundle it... yada, yada...

It's like renting a car and pimping it out, or letting someone else drive it - you just don't do it, but you can drive it wherever the heck you want, and in most cases, use it for your business, "but" it's still "their" car.

SketchUp belongs to Trimble - works created with the software belong to you.

Thanks TIG. I understan that SU still doesn't support thumbnail viewing in Explorer for 64 bit.

Thank you Remus and Thomthom, I copied the model and pasted it in another new file in SU6. But this has not solved the problem. This is happening only with this particular file. Anyway, I shall manage with SU6 for this file.

I am using Windows XP-SP2. Yes, the toolbars are in the correct position when I launch SU. The other application will be either AutoCAD or an image file using the Windows Picture and Fax viewer. There are no desktop enhancers.

Perhaps the reason the rectangle tool doesn't work with the standard inferences is that it requires two directions rather than just one, so any single inference is not enough. They work for a line (an edge), as it may be defined in one direction, not so a face (a rectangle) which has two dimensions and thus two directions.

Lapx, that is great. That is what I want.
By the way I just bought today the subdivide & smooth
script. Haven't had the time to experiment with it yet.

Now-a-days I am not having much problem from autoCAD files imported to SU. Things are quite fine. There is also another trick which came from one of the forums - scale the AutoCAD model - say a 100 times. After importing into SU scale down by 100. You may even scale up to 1000 and then scale down in SU. This sorts out quite a lot of problems in curved surfaces. Also i have tried scaling up by 500 and then export as 3ds with Autosmooth turned off. Then import it in SU and scale down. Use the smoothing option in SU . This way it will be possible to pick the entire surface to apply texture.
